I am completely stupid.

If I had a lot of money, could I run a full node?

Would my stupidity defeat the benefits of running a full node?

you could. It is really simple. Your stupidity would probably not do anything provided that you don't do anything to mess with the node. Just download, install, and run Bitcoin Core and tada, full node.

You need to have enough money to own a computer and to keep that computer connected to the internet.

You need to be smart enough to be able to figure out how to download software, and run it on your computer. To actually be a help to the network, you'll also want to either be able to open a port on your firewall/router (if you have one) or know someone that can take care of that for you.

i dont think that you are as stupid as you are saying, so ofc im pretty sure that you can run a full node without problems.

also with the current "war" between corevsXT, the core defenders will thank you if you run a full node ( well i think that you are talking about core...)

I am willing to provide the capital, the location, and the electricity.  But I am not smart enough to download, build, compile, configure, command line, set defaults, or other things non-stupid people are able to do.  Nor am I smart enough to specify the proper RAM and HD space required when I make the computer purchase.

Also, my internet connectivity is currently a smart phone, currently with a 30GB monthly plan.  Is that a show stopper?

I am willing to provide the capital, the location, and the electricity.  But I am not smart enough to download,

Now smart enough to download? It really is as simple as going to a website and clicking on a link.

build, compile, configure, command line, set defaults, or other things non-stupid people are able to do.

None of these are needed to run a full node.

Have you ever installed and run any software on any computer? Or do you exclusively use the software that comes pre-installed when you purchase a computer and never use any other software?

Nor am I smart enough to specify the proper RAM and HD space required when I make the computer purchase.

You are posting on a forum on the internet, doesn't that mean you already have a computer? Or are you posting from a smartphone or a public computer at a library?

A full node can run on just about any modern computer. You'd have to go out of your way to try to buy a new computer that didn't have enough RAM or HD space.

Also, my internet connectivity is currently a smart phone, currently with a 30GB monthly plan.  Is that a show stopper?

You probably wouldn't want to run a full node under those circumstances.  It probably could be done with some effort, but a full node is typically available to provide the blockchain to other full nodes as they start up.  The blockchain is currently greater than 30GB, so there would be potential to exceed your monthly plan.  Some configuration, or monitoring, might make it possible to avoid issues, but personally I wouldn't try to run a full node on such a connection

simple.

Loan a server rack in a datacenter ... maintenance free, no noise (100 USD per month for an high end rack).

Full node is good when you want mining alone.

Would my stupidity defeat the benefits of running a full node?

Since you do not have a suitable Internet Connection, you can do one of the following:

Option 1 - run it locally
1) Get a proper fast and uncapped fixed line like fibre or cable or adsl.
2) Get a PC with at least a 500GB Hard drive, 4GB memory and any Core i5 or i7 processor will do.
3) Install Windows 7, 8.1 or 10
4) Download the core wallet  and run it. It will sync the blockchain and our PC will be a node.

Option 2 - run it in the cloud
1) You don't need to get a new Internet connection but use your existing one to access a cloud server.
2) Rent a cloud server from any cloud server provider. if you want to pay in BTC you can use Vultr.
3) Setup an Ubuntu server 14.10x64 should do. Select a 2GB memory one with 1 or 2 CPUs.
4) Install dependencies and compile the Bitcoin core wallet.
5) Run it and let it sync.

If you want to DIY and do not know about Linux and compiling, then Option 1 would be better. Option 2 is for more skilled people. If you really have a lot of money to help the cause, then Option 2 could be a much better option if you do the following. Create an online account with a cloud service provider eg. Vultr and rent a handful of servers and ask one of the trusted technical guys on the forum to set them up for you. That would be fire up and forget and all you need to do is to remember to keep your Vultr account funded. If there is someone here that is trusted that person could even rent and setup a bunch of full node servers and send you the BTC address for the rental tx and you can then send the coins to that address. Even another alternative is to make use of a trusted escrow provider like OgNasty and transfer the BTC to him. Once He is satisfied that the agreed upon number of full node servers have been setup and configured, he could transfer the BTC to the hoster. This can be repeated monthly and you do not have to worry about any technical matter apart from paying the funds. I am sure you will be capable of that part  Cheesy

Very cool, but with 64GB of disc space on a SD card it will be full in a year without pruning.
Also, I've heard that SD cards are not the perfect thing to store the blockchain onto due to the many read/writes
