Remains of people who are thought to have suffocated discovered in lorry abandoned on hard shoulder of motorway in east of country

The bodies of at least 20 migrants – and possibly as many as 40 or 50 – have been found inside a parked lorry in eastern Austria, police said on Thursday, in a grim indication of the growing human toll of Europe’s worst refugee emergency since 1945.

The badly decomposed remains were discovered on Thursday morning on Austria’s A4 motorway between Neusiedl and Parndorf. The truck had been abandoned on the hard shoulder of the road near Parndorf. It had apparently been there since Wednesday. The refugees, who appeared to have suffocated, died before they entered Austria, police said.

Hans Peter Doskozil, head of police in the district of Burgenland, said there were at least 20 dead but that the death toll could rise to 40 or 50. The state of the bodies made establishing an exact figure difficult. The identities were also not known, he said.

“The deaths already occurred some time ago,” he added. “We can make no concrete assumptions about the origin or cause [of death]. We can assume, however, that they are refugees.”

shame it wasn't 50,000, should have stayed the fuck in their third world shit holes

Be radical, have principles, be absolute, be that which the bourgeoisie calls an extremist: give yourself without counting or calculating, don't accept what they call ‘the reality of life' and act in such a way that you won't be accepted by that kind of ‘life', never abandon the principle of struggle.

The current info I found is that there were about 70 people, probably from Syria, and they probably died while transiting Hungary.
Austrian police has already arrested some people, Hungarian police also has issued arrest warrants.
The suspects seem to be a couple Bulgarian, a Lebanese and a Hungarian.

I am perplexed at the fact that these refugees are heading towards the European Union. Countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar are very near to Syria, and they are much richer than these eastern European nations such as Hungary and Bulgaria. Why risk you lives getting into Europe, when you can travel to Saudi Arabia much more easily?

Quite a lot of them are expecting to get some free money in countries like Germany, also in countries like Saudi Arabia they have to work much harder for a decent living.

What I don't understand is how the heck they just go with the first that promises them to get them there.
They should use better their brains and think of safety too, gambling their lives too many times.. turns out with some unfortunate events too.

It also depends on how the Saudis would react to refugees. They might be ready to offer monetary support, but not accept refugees.
Plus people might be desperate to escape from the confines of the Middle East.

Saudi Arabia King Donates Millions To Syrian Refugees But Won’t Take Them In

It should also be mentioned here that Saudi Arabia has not ratified the 1951 Refugee Convention and does not even have an asylum system. U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has a small office in Riyadh but it is not allowed to receive and review refugee claims.

In that case, the ideal solution would be the Saudis sponsoring a refugee resettlement program in some other third world nation (such as Mozabique or Indonesia), so that the pressure on European Union is lowered. But I really doubt whether they are ready to sponsor such a program. The European countries are spending billions of USD every year in trying to help these refugees, but Saudi Arabia has allotted less than $300 million during the last 3 years for the same purpose.

and being "human" grants these migrants rights to invade my country and claim housing, welfare and jobs that belong to my people? europe is for europeans, not for african and pakistanis. there are 50 muslim countries they could go to but they know we're going to give them free stuff and their islamic brothers wont.

thousands of these boat people die every year. if any european leader had the balls to issue orders to shoot them at the border or sink one of the boats they would immediately realise there was nothing for them here and stop coming. you'd only have to kill 50 people or so and then it would stop.

I am also baffled by this. There are close to 50 Islamic countries around the world, and none of them are ready to provide refuge to the Muslim migrants. Take the case of the Rohingya for example. Most of them are now fleeing towards India, as Bangladesh (which is 90% Muslim), Indonesia and Malaysia are refusing to take them.
