I don't get it. The guy holding the crossed out photo looks like a younger version of the guy in the photo. Are they related?

You're right, they're very similar. But I don't think so. Cheesy

What are the riots really about? I hate to admit it but the med area is so constantly in turmoil that I don't keep up with specifics.

It's a demonstration against deployment of turkish troops in the northern Iraq.

Oh ok, thanks. I thought they were protesting the local Turk U.S. political suck up. There's always one in every new government. I went TDY to Incirlik when I was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany to help them take down their old Hawk Missile Battery and upgrade to the Patriot. We were there for about six months and a week didn't pass without some group of townies protesting about the Americans or their shitty leader that let the Americans stay. Funny, they hate us but we never leave. I don't know if that's their fault or ours.

It was Masoud Barzani, the leader of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) who invited the Turkish troops to his territory. Although the Kurds hate Turkey like anything, Barzani has been trying to get close to Erdogan for the past many months. Saudi Arabia has been doing a lot of secret diplomacy hidden away from the media, and they seems to be interested in getting Erdogan and Barzani on the same table.
