Many of today's teens spend much of their time with their faces buried in a computer monitor or smart phone. Moms and dads who would prefer that their teens’ faces were buried in books might suspect the cause of this phenomenon is technology addiction. However, parents need to understand the specific symptoms of technology addiction before making a judgment.

Yes, current generation is very much tech savvy as compared to previous one. More and more use of laptops, tabs, smartphones, super gadgets and now crypto currency so we can say that current generation has been taken over by technology which is playing very very important role in their life.

It is a very  different world from the age of the cassette tape and vhs.  It is great that there is so much information available at the touch of a button, it is also quite scary how reliant on technology everyone is not just the kids but society as a whole, so in answer to your question I say yes if it has not taken over already.

Don't worry, maybe those teens buried in technology instead of books will become great programmers or inventors. You never know Wink

The problem isn't technology or any of that bullshit it's that children aren't taught how to question what they read, that's why they're growing up believing in tons of bullshit their teachers or professors manipulated them into believing rather than letting them study and learn from multiple sources and they're not being taught in different ways.

im going to go ahead and say that technology has definitely taken over some time ago. think about it for a second, we can joke about how all people do when they go out is play around on our smartphones, but  that's the reality of it. the first world population today is so incredibly dependent on technology that society would likely fall apart to an extent if an emp was detonated above our heads.

theres nothing here. message me if you want to put something here.

This generation HAS been taken over by technology. But not like you think. The technology is the military's. Military and big business talk Congress into giving them more money for R & D. The results are things like NSA eavesdropping. Soon we will all be literal slaves to the military, because their technology will be stronger than all the guns the people have.

Quote
Moms and dads who would prefer that their teens’ faces were buried in books might suspect the cause of this phenomenon is technology addiction.

This sentence in itself is in relation with the technological divide between the generations.  What difference does it make if I get my knowledge from a computer or a book?  There isn't one, this is a stupid desire; moms and dads should educate themselves some on this matter, esp. in regards to the idea that the only purpose of a computer is to be entertained.  I was once denied, in my teens, of using the family PC to write an essay, never given a real reason why I couldn't, and was instructed instead to go to the library instead to write it.  The power cord to the PC was even hidden to ensure I couldn't use it (though I did find another cord elsewhere in the house, not like they're apple products or anything.)  So I used the fucking computers at the library to write my essay lol it's like, why did my time need to be wasted like this?  With all the time I spent in getting from and to the library, I could've spent in writing a better essay.

And it's not like the older generations were safe from the phenomenon either; vehicles revolutionized the world when they came about, fucking everyone owns a car nowadays, it's considered a staple of human life: no car, no transportation, you're fucked.  Not to mention all the other vehicles which make life easier.  Were they writing articles back then about how that technology was taking over that generation?  Were they writing articles about the machines making work infinitely easier and "oh no, how are all these people going to find work now that the piston has taken over the labor of twenty men?"  Now that I think about it, I'm sure this did happen, and I'm sure it will be ignored because "wow, new contemporary world that man's never experienced before never ever ever!!" Roll Eyes  And I'm sure the responses were the same: people freaking out, saying "what would happen if the world as we know it ends and there's no more cars, how will you get by then, that's why everyone should keep a horse and buggy just in case."  Nobody thinks this anymore, esp. not after being raised around cars and being very much used to their existence.  So why do they say it about computers?  Simply put, because it's new, because the later generations weren't raised around it and the younger generations were, so while the younger generations see and exploit the incredible potential for a computer to ease one's life, the older generations will perpetually prefer the methods which they understand and are comfortable with than to put in the effort to use something which can make their lives potentially worse (if you've ever known someone who has a hard time figuring out how to copy and paste a file, you know what I mean.)  It's a dichotomy as old as civilization itself.

In a hundred years there will be some new technology that makes it so you never need to move a single muscle to get anything done, and the older generation will complain about it, claim it will lead to muscle dysfunction, claim it's taking over the lives of our younger folk and how can we get them to use the old trusted technologies again like good ol' brawn, and think about all the jobs we'll lose when we don't need to exert much effort to accomplish the same task, how are we going to feed and house all these people who can't find work; meanwhile, the younger generations will find ways to use it to their advantage, for their minds are still fresh, not bogged down by experience--of course, the downside being, lack of experience, and the more of that they get the more they turn into the older generation.  Anyway, point is, there's nothing new under the sun and certainly nothing new in this article.  The day someone comes up with a way to fix our "addiction" with plumbing, refrigerators, chairs, cars & planes & trains, comfortable clothing and phones, that's when you ought to listen to what they have to say about contemporary technology: just make sure their "solution" doesn't involve leaving your "earthly incarnation" to meet some celestial god-turtle on a distant planet.

Yes, smartphones and Windows 10 both listen to you, as in eavesdrop, literally. They'll straight up tell you about it too. But most of the younger generation don't care. They've grown up in a world were there is practically no privacy. It's a shame.

This generation isn't much different than previous generations...instead of "in their phones" it was "in their video games" and "in their comic books" and "in their..."

What's different about this generation is that they'll own technology, they'll evolve it much faster than previous generations. That can be attributed to the fact that technology growth or evolution is exponential.

I think we have been taken over by technology a long time ago, is this good or bad? I think it’s both. In one hand we have the possibility of acquiring new knowledge with incredible ease; communication, sending money at the other side of the world, etc are some of the benefits.

But there are negatives; one of those is that people are becoming less tech savvy, less tech savvy? You may think, but it is true, my nephew maybe an expert at using facebook on his Mobil phone, and may know about apps that I have never heard of, but I can code and if a piece of software does not work as intended I can solve it by myself.

Yes today's kids are living their lives on the internet. They have to get out more, do some sport activities and socialize with other kids. The internet and the technology are very useful but their usage should have a limit.

Every generation has been taken by technology since man discovered fire. This one will be no different.

Technology giveth; technology taketh away.

Remember Aaron Swartz, a 26 year old computer scientist who died defending the free flow of information.

Yes that is the reason why so many kids wear glasses, because they spend their day in front of their pc, they have no respect, because they read all kinds of stuff on the internet and many other things. I won't raise my kids like that for sure. If you don't have enough time to raise your kid as you are suppose to do, than it is better not to have one.

As someone who has family around this age, I would much rather that they spent their time inside on technology, similar to as I did. I'm not saying this to try and get some sort of gratification for my actions as a kid.
I would rather that the younger generation were to learn about things on the internet, rather than kill themselves and commit crimes to try and fit in with the cunts in my area. Much like Lethn, my area isn't the best for just going out and playing games because of all the chavs and twats that live here.

this generation already has been largly taken over by tech. its not all bad though. what we are seeing is some counter cultural movement. some kids are getting back to the land, like hippies in the sixties, there is a movement that is reacting against technocracy.
