Can Theymos or BadBear please explain:
Negative - You were scammed or you strongly believe that this person is a scammer.

If I strongly believe someone is a scammer and I give a reason why, how would I be abusing trust?

Once again, this is NOT about Quickseller or TSP. No need to bring either of them up here. I've been accused of trust abuse before, usually by private message and usually after outing a scammer. I see trust abuse thrown around often so figured I would bring this up.

IMO, if the reason is valid enough, then, of course, it is not trust abuse. If people have been complaining to you for trust abuse, they're probably the scammer/an alt of a scammer you labeled.

You don't have to have traded with the person and been scammed by the person you label; hence the "you strongly believe that this person is a scammer". But again, the reason must be valid and NOT opinion-based.

The last part is what bugs me. If I strongly believe someone is a scammer, that's my opinion and others may agree or disagree.

They are trying to argue that your trust rating is based on something personal. There have been a number of situations in which negative trust was left because of some personal issue (someone posting in a thread about prices of competitors being lower, someone posting in threads joking that someone works for silk road, ect.) and when this happens they are quickly removed from DT.

I believe the thinking goes that if someone claims they receive a negative rating because of something personal in nature, and not scamming related then the person leaving the rating will either remove the rating or they will be removed from DT.

I've seen that, in my trust setting (I use DefaultTrust depth 2), I've seen Quickseller's username have crossed and have a number (-1) besides it (while others being positive integers and don't crossed. What does the numbers/crossed usernames mean?

It means someone has excluded him from their trust. The number in brackets is how many have done so I believe.

To clarify, I think the number in round brackets is the sum of inclusions - exclusions.  So, if you see (-1) it means that one more person at a given level in the hierarchy has excluded that person than that has added them.  0 means inclusions and exclusions are equal.

What about if somebody thinks that positive trust is being given unreasonably, will they also remove you from their trust?

Say, for example, someone was giving their alts positive trust, would you personally consider that to be acceptable?

Also, while you are talking about trust, would it be fair to say that Default Depth 1 is effectively your personal trust list?

Trust abuse can be claimed by anyone and there's no specific definition for it. Even Theymos has said the same and hence it's upto the member to leave a ratng that he may feel accurate. Not necessary the member who has been given the rating and other members who have witnessed it may feel the same and hence it can be a trust abuse according to them.


Also, I've noticed that quite many of your ratings are accurate. Being a DT member, you shouldn't mind if anyone does criticize your ratings as you hold some responsibility for your ratings as they are trusted.

IIRC, some of that number of negative ratings were while the negative rating criteria wasn't equal to or similar to "You were scammed or you strongly believe that this person is a scammer." and the criteria was left open to pure distrust and quasi-tortious interference, et cetera ad infinitum, neg ratings. And the DT removal came ex post facto the change to that criteria.
