I'm a nonpartisan observer with an interest in studying schisms within groups, and in understanding what similarities and differences exist between between the disagreeing individuals. Assuming I receive enough responses for analysis, I'll present my results on reddit and bitcointalk.

Where it says "reddit/bitcointalk username" put bitcointalk username instead, and where it says PM you can send me a message here or just reply in this thread.

In the published results your username will not be linked with your data.

Just finished the survey took less than a minute.
You are here in bitcointalk and not reddit to require username Smiley
Why did you put this "What is 7+3? *Give your answer in numerals" when it doesn't change even when we refresh, this doesn't stop bots Smiley

Thanks for responding!  Smiley

Yeah, I used the same form as on reddit, but I figured people could just substitute in BitcoinTalk username instead and it wouldn't cause too much confusion.

Yeah, it doesn't stop bots but the person who helped me design the form (and who does the data cleaning if bots hit) informed me that it can help a bit.

I normed this on a few people and 1 min is quite common but average was 2.

I'm a little unsure of how long it'll take to get a decent number of responses, but will definitely publish a raw file once I'm done with collecting data. I'll remove all the usernames first, and also the timestamps, and anything else that might potentially identify people. That probably means I must also remove ages from the raw data file.

Its a shitty political survey, what are you hoping to find out from asking these questions?

I was about to question the same thing, is the data going to be useful for something or it's just curiosity? Normally folks here sharing surveys are academics or something like that and will use the data for works/articles/publishing...

I don't think this Core vs XT setup is constructive at all.

We need to have them both. (and hopefully more)

I'll pass on this survey but only because of the political orientation question (I had filled out the rest).

Thanks for the feedback. I've received a few remarks about this so I'll make a comment.

I agree that one question cannot provide anything like a nuanced assessment of your political outlook. However, in many countries, including the countries most likely to provide respondents to the survey, that single question is very predictive of eventual voting.

In other words, even if some readers think "this question is bullshit" it is nonetheless true that the question has predictive power. From a researcher's perspective if the question has predictive power it can be useful even if several participants don't like it.

FWIW I would also find it hard to pin my political views down to a scale like that.

Although it might have predictive power, that question disregards people who don't support any of those options.

Filled it out. Hard to imagine what the data will tell you, all pretty generalized questions. It will be interesting to read your results.

If none of those options represents you you could pick moderate. It'd be a pity not to fill out the rest just because of that. It's hard to be perfectly inclusive in forms when it comes to the political spectrum, participants just pick the closest.

Precisely.  The question assumes that the person is a voter.  The question assumes that the person approves of central authority in principle.  The block size debate is firmly about how best to protect Bitcoin against the possible emergence of central authority.

I don't doubt this question's predictive power regarding election outcomes.  The survey neatly ignores conscientious non-voters exactly as an election itself does.

If none of those options represents you you could pick moderate. It'd be a pity not to fill out the rest just because of that. It's hard to be perfectly inclusive in forms when it comes to the political spectrum, participants just pick the closest.

It is as though the question: "Which of the following best describes your diet: beef-eater; pork-eater; chicken-eater; general meat-eater" was lifted from PorkFest and asked to a group with a relatively large number of vegetarians.  There really isn't a sensible closest option.

The political spectrum is very complicated though. I guess an option would be to leave a blank space for everyone to enter their beliefs that perhaps weren't represented above. But if you try that in the special-beliefs Fest you're in danger of not being able to get the big picture.
