I think we have to try and make our own jobs more and more these days, which in theory is no bad thing. Technological unemployment is no bad thing unless you're a Luddite.

To a certain extent that is true (labor and manufacturing).  I need and can't find experienced electrical and mechanical design professionals without paying through the nose for them because all the good ones already have high paying jobs.
