So ,since I heard that you could change your username by requesting, I've been having this mad idea that somehow if I could change my own username . This got even more of an wish once TF used his VIP status just for trolling and here I am wishing my name to be something since I started bcttalk and someone uses this power for trolling.
I don't think theymos will be recognizing this post, or a PM if I do send him a request to change my username, but I see badbear is here very frequently.
Anyway coming back to the point:
1) Has any username change been granted for non-VIP members?
2)What probablity do you think is my wish being granted?
Well its really bad luck when you don't have 50btc to waste for a username change.
Lastly, do you wish you could change your username or are you happy with your current one?

Of course he will only do it for a really strong reason otherwise he'll have to hire people only to handle change of name requests, so I think your chance is close to 0

The problem with everybody changing their username around is that it makes scamming much easier. Now people can recognize well known scammers by their username, if everybody is able to change, this will be harder (although neg trust will always stay).

That's why theymos and BB don't give out name changes frequently; and they never have and never will give out a name change to a well-known scammer. (Unless they are a VIP, in which case they can change it themselves.) |

Namechange for non vip members is only for High Rank Important members. If you are a normal user you have 99.9% chance it will not happen. Theymos is very busy person.

The major reason it isn't done often is the time it takes to manually change a name. That and if it was a common thing, people would expect to be able to have their names changed. VIP members can change their names themselves. I've seen Theymos change names for people that have asked for a name change, but like you said, don't get your hopes up, and don't expect a short timeframe. If you are lucky he will happen across your thread and have a free couple minutes to spare.

Why? How long does it take to manually change a name? I thought that it would be a matter of checking if the desired username was taken, going into the admin panel, and then changing the username. I must be wrong...? |

Why? How long does it take to manually change a name? I thought that it would be a matter of checking if the desired username was taken, going into the admin panel, and then changing the username. I must be wrong...? Admins have many other things to do. Changing someone's username is pretty low in the priority list. In other words, priority wise, it will never be done. I'm not sure admins want to open a flood gate for username change requests either. |

AFAIK you need a very strong reason or a very small change. For example my original username was 'ecuamobi' (lowercase) and asked Theymos to change it to my current 'EcuaMobi'. I guess he agreed because it didn't cause confusion. I was just full member or so at the time. He also changed some usernames because they were causing a bug. Other than that it's very difficult to happen. |

Another question I had, pretty much everyone here are replying "theymos this" "theymos that" , I do know theymos himself will be quite busy but can't BadBear too make a username change as he is also an admin? I notice BadBear is online frequently, but eh I shouldn't get my hopes high on either of the Admins. AFAIK you need a very strong reason or a very small change. For example my original username was 'ecuamobi' (lowercase) and asked Theymos to change it to my current 'EcuaMobi'. I guess he agreed because it didn't cause confusion. I was just full member or so at the time. He also changed some usernames because they were causing a bug. Other than that it's very difficult to happen. Hmm but wouldn't it be the same as changing the whole username just adding some extra seconds to type the letters? So you need to make a small change and be lucky that theymos has time to apply it. Hmm I wanted mine to be changed to PercyJackson so quite a huge change I guess. In case you ask why, answer's in my avatar, PM and signature(requested the camp manager for the permission to change it a tiny bit). Pretty childish reason you may say but it matters quite a lot to me, and I gotta make another account and wait for ~6 months to get to the position I currently am in. |
