Traps for the unwary #463► Premine: 6%
► Blocks 6001+ = 250 Coins
Sadly mistaken on both counts, I fear. The reward after block 6000 is 400 HSP forever ( https://github.com/HorsePowerCoin/HorsePowerCoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L1088). int64 static GetBlockValue(int nHeight, int64 nFees) { int64 nSubsidy = 500 * COIN; { nSubsidy = 174000 * COIN; } [ ... ] else if(nHeight >= 6001) { nSubsidy = 400 * COIN; }
return nSubsidy + nFees; }
174000 described as “6%” premine. Implying an expected total of 174000 * (100 / 6) == 2898840.0 https://github.com/HorsePowerCoin/HorsePowerCoin/blob/master/src/main.h#L55: static const int64 MAX_MONEY = 2900000 * COIN;
MAX_MONEY limits the total number of coins allowed in a single transaction/fee NOT the total number of coins. After block 6000, as long as mining continues, the number of coins issued will increase by 400 HSP every 60 seconds. At that rate of production, the total number of coins issued should reach 100000000 in about five months. Of which 174000 is less than 0.2%. Cheers Graham

► Premine: 6%
► Blocks 6001+ = 250 Coins
Thanks for the input Graham, yea i made another typo. Blocks 6001+ is set to 400 Coins. I've made the correction to OP. 174000 described as “6%” premine. Implying an expected total of 174000 * (100 / 6) == 2898840.0
But premine is 6% of total supply (6*2900000)/100=174000.
Oh well, just more coins to go around

Oh well, just more coins to go around *That's* your attitude for supply after 5 months being 34 times the total eventual PoW supply you specified in your announcement?!? I'm pulling my rigs off this shitcoin then. No matter what you've got in the pipeline-- and I'm betting not much given your level of care on this crucial supply issue-- it's not gonna be enough to add any value to the extreme long-term dilution effect. Abandoncoin in 3... 2... 1...

Premine will be distributed trough bounties, thats how we want people to to be involved in further developing of the coin. If anyone is capable to do something positive about HSP, please pm me for making a deal.

block reward is very important going into the future but what is even more important is the amount of network hash going after those rewards - only time will tell if the block reward is significant or not.

Totally true. But about the max supply, I must admit gjhiggins and notsofast had me doubting for a while, so I checked with other devs just to make sure and you know what ? The max money is well... the max money. static const int64 MAX_MONEY = 2900000 * COIN;
MAX_MONEY limits the total number of coins allowed in a single transaction/fee NOT the total number of coins. @Graham : Wrong. You're just full of fud!

where is the check in code if max coin is already hit? because pow must stop at this point or give zero reward. the only thing with max_money i can find in code has nothing to do with pow. if (txout.nValue > MAX_MONEY) return state.DoS(100, error("CTransaction::CheckTransaction() : txout.nValue too high"))

Strong words, I am sure you are sure you have the facts to base that accusation. Would you eventually enlighten me as where in your sources MAX_MONEY limits the total supply? Oh, and maybe you could use a dev-tool called google and end up with a link like that: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/6197/filesOr you could consult this very same forum and find https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=331069.0*tsktsk* @Graham: thank you for your repeated insights and helpful posts, I learn a lot from them!

@Graham : Wrong. You're just full of fud!
Uh-huh, you checked with “other devs”. And then decided that an insulting tone would be appropriate. Not the best of calls. Can I recommend that you develop a little more maturity and extend your skillset, then you will more readily avoid making a public spectacle of yourself. In case your ill-founded and incorrect claim confuses others, I'll make it clear ... Try inspecting the source code - as a self-styled “dev”, you should at least be capable of reading C++ for meaning ... I recursively grepped the code for case-sensitive instances of the character string MAX_MONEY. Results showed two (2) header declarations and three (3) instances of use in the main codebase ... $ grep -r -n MAX_MONEY horsepowercoin horsepowercoin/src/main.h:55:static const int64 MAX_MONEY = 2900000 * COIN; horsepowercoin/src/main.h:56:inline bool MoneyRange(int64 nValue) { return (nValue >= 0 && nValue <= MAX_MONEY); } horsepowercoin/src/main.cpp:573: if (txout.nValue > MAX_MONEY) horsepowercoin/src/main.cpp:636: return MAX_MONEY; horsepowercoin/src/main.cpp:641: nMinFee = MAX_MONEY; horsepowercoin/src/test/data/tx_valid.json:54:["MAX_MONEY output"], horsepowercoin/src/test/data/tx_valid.json:58:["MAX_MONEY output + 0 output"], horsepowercoin/src/test/data/tx_invalid.json:39:["MAX_MONEY + 1 output"], horsepowercoin/src/test/data/tx_invalid.json:43:["MAX_MONEY output + 1 output"],
I've edited the results into URLs so that you (and everyone else) can easily verify that MAX _MONEY is only used to limit the amount of coins in any single transaction/fee https://github.com/HorsePowerCoin/HorsePowerCoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L573: if (txout.nValue > MAX_MONEY) https://github.com/HorsePowerCoin/HorsePowerCoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L636: return MAX_MONEY; https://github.com/HorsePowerCoin/HorsePowerCoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L641: nMinFee = MAX_MONEY; These “other devs” of whom you write --- are they perhaps school classmates of yours? The reason I ask is, like yourself, they also appear to be refreshingly uncontaminated by knowledge. Cheers Graham

Rough estimate is 1000 blocks/24h.
So 7000 blocks per week, that would be 3300000 coins by next monday. Give or take a few hundred thousands.

Fair enough, that's a mature response to a critique. People round here are likely to be quite tolerant if all the facts are laid out on the table. My original post was prefaced “traps for the unwary” and indeed, the incorrect statement about limits and rewards arises not from malice but from inexperience, which is forgiveable. Cheers Graham

horsepower, will you be considering a fork to limit number of coins in the future? possibly a vote? what are the short / long term plans for coin.... white paper?
fork? yes i'm considering once supply gets close to 2.9 million. my plans for this week will be to release a roadmap and setup a website plus explorer.

@Graham, @notsofast. I now know that I am wrong and you where right. Sorry about the fud remark and thanks for providing thanks proof.
Now everyone, please don't be mad and still have fun mining.
Cheers Graham No harm no foul, best of luck with your coin!

Didi you ever checked the website ? Seems no, roadmap exist for everyone except you well - when I checked it... wise guy there was no road map so apparently I checked it before it was published. regardless - coin value is dropping like a hot rock. buy wall had dwindled to almost nothing - only one exchange, but I hope the dev can pull it our since there no pos and the future value depends on whether or not the dev can convince everyone there's some value coming and future in the coin. I hope so - I own a lot of there coins.
