I know the days of GPU Bitcoin mining are long gone, but I was wondering if there's still a coin I can mine with a GPU.

Every single one, ignoring a few that haven't got a programmer to make one for them.
These coins are labelled distinctly as *CPU* and are usually in early development stages.

Hi there, I'm from South Africa.
This means I'm poor, I guess.

Select coin, pool, get mining software for your GPU, edit the .bat file and start mining.
But I guess that's not what you wanted to hear?

With GPU, you can mine coins with X11, X13, X15, Quark algo's etc. Look at the coins with low difficulty and test it.

Not for a newbie, no. Ethereum can only be exercised on Linux and under many different requirements. It's very confusing to those not fully computer-literate and able to exercise code. Eth is just a new idea with a high price tag.

Its getting easier to mine from what I have heard there is now Althone which works from your windows desktop but ,

Mining with GPU's in general is not as easy as ASICs,  yeah I am interested in mining Lyra and some others but then I have to figure out what kernel to use, what version of CGminer etc etc

How can I get started with mining altcoins?
Any suggestions?
I want to develop a little this question since I am interested to this too.
Is there any altcoin that can be mined in your home pc and has a good conversion ratio with bitcoin?
Or at least can you tell us how much you can earn from solo mining by btc price?
Thanks.

What you are saying is false. I'm on Windows and I mine Ethereum everyday all the day since near a week, so no, it isn't exclusive to Linux. I didn't needed to know code nor to do tricky things. Yes it's a bit difficult, but not impossible.

The equivalent of 1.07$, eh if the price of ETH will increase so much it will be a good deal else it is simply a waste of time &  electricity...

I'm pretty sure that the Ethereum price will rise but I did it to have fun and to learn how Ethereum works.

Thanks for the site
By viewing a couple of altcoin and calculating the profit minus electricity, i have been always on red. Better to get more information to prevent the losses.
Thx again

The hash rate has been jumping around a bit as of late but Bitcoin-scrypt (BTCS) can still be mined profitably with gpu but that will probably change once the CryptoVoter blockchain voting starts.
