Does anyone know when/if a low profile Radeon HD 7xxx series card will/might be released.  It's not really for bitcoin mining but for a nettop but I might do a bit of litecoin mining on it for fun.  I'm after a passive cooled one so is not worth waiting for a 7450 and probably should just get the 6450  Huh

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

There not 'low-profile' cards.

I never said they were. I just wanted to help you with single slot mining cards, since I did not find a low profile 77xx!

Yeah its got to be 'low-profile' or it wont fit in the nettop's case.

Low profile cards are almost always passively cooled or have an extremely small fan, which just isn't going to work on anything with enough power to really make mining with them worth while.

Best low profile I can find is this...

Palit NVIDIA GT 640 Graphics Card - 2GB
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSy9VExBDvU

not passive but not noisy and it kicks the ass of the Ati 6570 & 6450 low profiles
http://www.hwcompare.com/12831/geforce-gt-640-ddr3-vs-radeon-hd-6570-oem-1gb/
http://www.hwcompare.com/12832/geforce-gt-640-ddr3-vs-radeon-hd-6450-oem-1gb/

If you want run games it's your best option, a passive 6450 is only useful for watching DVDs on! Tongue

I found 2 Low profile Radeon HD 7000 series cards that are low profile and readily available for purchase @ Newegg. Both use the 7750 core of 512 stream processors @ 800 MHz and 1 GB of GDDR5 RAM @ 1125 MHz and 128-bit bus width.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131480 from PowerColor is Low-Profile ready and comes with 2 low-profile brackets that you can install yourself.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002 from Sapphire comes with a Low-Profile bracket pre-installed with no VGA output at all but comes with a DisplayPort instead. Also has a full size bracket in case you want to install in a regular size PC.

There are also some system pulls of Radeon HD 7450's that come from big name PCs such as HP. There are a small handful of them on ebay. Here is a link to one.

I saw that, but I wouldn't suggest running any type of mining, even for fun, on a passively cooled card.  You're gonna toast it in no time.

This one looks like it's both single-slot and low-profile:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002&name=Desktop-Graphics-Cards

(FWIW, I picked up the overclocked Gigabyte card a couple months ago.  It'll mine all day at about 133 MH/s with no tweaking.  It's neither single-slot nor low-profile, though.  You should expect a bit less (maybe 120 MH/s) from cards running at standard speed.)

if you want to really save money.. I bought a sapphire 5570 a couple months back for $20. It would do 96m/h and played portal 2 at 720p perfectly fine. Its not passive but I couldn't hear the fan either. If your not a big gamer it might work for you.
