I didn't see any updates from bitcoinica, could someone update the status?

There's no harm in waiting as long as you're doing something else with your life at the same time. The money is *gone* and barring personally going to try and get the money back from the people you know personally to be responsible- that's about all you can get. :-(

You didn't look very hard for updates.  The first hearing before the High Court of NZ is happening a week from today.
