I doubt they get many donations. And, no, you shouldn't donate Bitcoin to someone because of their forum status. Most of them probably freelance or work online, and get paid using the sig address.

Yup, me too. But I don't expect any donations from anyone. It's just the way it is.

It can be used to identify you if your account is hacked. Obviously legendary members are bigger targets for hackers.

This, and the fact that having a regular address is akin to having an ID/public address that can be linked to you in situations required of.

Although it's true Legendary accounts are big targets for hackers, posting an address in the signature won't help for security reasons as it can get changed & changes to the signature doesn't get recorded, unless Theymos as a custom script.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't get recorded, at least when I did my bit with smf it didn't. Posting an address in the body of a post, personal message is different as they can be saved. I believe on the older versions of smf you could only save messages if at least 1 of the recipients of the personal message hasn't deleted it. If they have both deleted it then you couldn't recover it. I'm unsure if that covers this version of the forum though.

Putting an address in your signature or profile won't be enough to get your account back as they're not logged. Best to make a post or PM defaulttrust with an address in.

Why would anyone donate money to someone just because of their rank? I understand if they contribute hugely to the forum or Bitcoin.

ofcourse having your adress in your acount sig  is a big help to recover accounts. all you have to do is screenshot it and send the evidence to the admin. come on people its not rocket science.
maybe also ask a friend screenshot one of your posts in the forum and also send it to the admin alongside yours. this will make the claim credible.

It's not used for evidence for anything at all. I've already stated above that it doesn't get recorded in the database of any changes. Considering two staff members also confirmed this after..

Not only legendary, many other forum members do it, I guess they don't like the empty sig part, so they just add their btc address their. And the amount of btc they have is because they bought it, most probably they were early adopters of bitcoin.
