With 11 days until the release of BTS 2.0 on the new self proclaimed ramped up and improved Graphene blockchain, Bitshares 2.0 has imploded on itself by way of a black swan event (the first ever reported event to happen on a blockchain). While it was just a testnet, 11 days until the release doesn't leave much time to fix and test the problem again in real time with clear confidence that said problem won't happen again.

That's the purpose of a test net and why there's already a new release:

https://github.com/cryptonomex/graphene/releases/tag/test5

Just like how Ethereum test net leaks user's private keys so you can lose all your money:

https://bounty.ethdev.com/users/6fqhe7yn6XDCBr6wM

Or how NXT users log on Bitshares testnet then makes posts like this:

Hmmmmm....yeah. Anyone else not very convinced by Stan 'n' Dans hundred thousand TPS claim ?
If they've cracked it, and it actually works as promised, I'll take my hat off to them.
However, blowing up their blockchain in a way never seen before doesn't seem like good news.  Grin

It was a corner test case triggered by an artifact of the test network.  Easily covered with a few lines of code.  Worst case impact if that unlikely combination of conditions ever could occur outside those artificial scenarios would have been a one day "bank holiday" - something that happens twice every weekend in the current banking system.  We have asked our community to come up with more such test cases as more and more are piling on in search of fame and glory (and brownie points) for finding one.

These don't technically qualify as black swans in the Nassim Taleb sense of the word.  But our engineers use that phrase internally as shorthand when envisioning responses to "statistically unlikely events".

Given our open development and testnet discussions that even mischievous troublemakers are allowed to watch, I guess we should use more precise language.  There is always some kid from the first grade that goes running to the teacher with wild stories trying to get the other kids in trouble.

Its a test net, so it doesn't matter as that is what they are for.  Test nets have 100s of "black swan" events over the course of development, but most of them go unheard of because there is no public exposure.

Granted its a little close to launch day, and thats why this particular one is getting so much attention, but better that it get caught now rather than after launch.

Damn, I was hoping that BTS had managed to actually do something innovative.

Apparently some of the Bitshares delegates and faithful have been expressing concern over the current test nets reliability and the length of trials. This going back a couple weeks too.

And on BTT: Stan tries to spin events to make us happy with BTS delivering (supposedly) 100 TPS:

What happened to those 3 all-important zeroes, eh?

And why the hell is stan on btt anyway. I wish he'd just fuck off from the spamming and go back to his bitshares echo chamber.

Well, actually, I came here because of the outrageous posts Newmine was making.  I couldn't believe someone would behave like that, but there it was all over this forum.

We went for over a year without stopping by, figuring that folks interested in what we were doing would naturally drop by bitsharestalk.org to visit us.

Naively, we had no idea that the trolls over here were doing non-stop character assassination without rebuttal all that time.

We wondered, "What's everybody got against a couple of harmless farm boys from Virginia trying to solve some well-known problems that everybody agrees need to be solved?"

Then somebody pointed out that the usual suspects were lurking in our forum looking for anything they could rush over here and spin negatively.  The OP here is a typical example.

And there was the legitimate complaint that we never honored this community with any input.  Fair point.

So I decided to spend equal time here and back home with the hope of making some friends and clearing the air.

A lot of guys wondered why a busy COO would bother with a bunch of hostile uninformed chatter.  I hoped that by engaging in some friendly rational discussion I could remind folks that we're just ordinary people trying to make a difference the best we can.

So I keep coming by, recognizing that there will always be folks who try to drive away anything but their pet coin.  That's ok.  We get a lot of new supporters who would otherwise never hear our side of things.

And that's worth every minute.

Yeah, I'm happy to see you here as well, our Stan.

While you're here, care to drop some comments on the recent controversy surrounding your BEN partner, Banx Shares/Capital/Group/whatever ?
