What do you guys think of Thiem's statement here?

Pretty cocky statement and I wouldn't have expected that from him. He comes over as quite a nice and humble guy, but that statement speaks different. $47,000 is like basically nothing for him and he should at least show signals of solidarity or keep his mouth shut entirely. I think he is correct in saying, that there are people way more in need, but ATP is a little family in the end and he should care about it. He can still help non-tennis players in need with the rest of his money Grin

This is what I also thinking, cocky statement and it is totally unexpected of him to speak against players he has at least fought in a tennis match. Sometimes this kind of crisis bring the best and worst to a person. And with this statement, and when everything settles down, he might be frown upon by his fellow tennis players for this kind of attitude.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

I think sometimes the money goes to their head and like some here, this isn't something I would expect hearing from Thiem as I have always been a big supporter of this guy but now he has lost my support because I believe everyone should help each other out in this tough situation but I guess some people are just too greedy in this world because I'm sure he could spare a few hundred thousand or even a mill.

I can promote your project on X to my 100k+ followers for a reasonable price. Just DM me for prices.

Good news?

Tennis returns: No fans, line judges, ball kids or handshakes

Quote
It is a far cry from Roland Garros or Wimbledon, but professional tennis will return in Germany on Friday.

The first in a series of planned exhibition events will take place without spectators, line judges, ball kids or handshakes.

It is one of the first competitions between ATP players since professional tennis was suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic on 12 March.

The Tennis-Point exhibition features eight players outside the world's top 100.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/52496009

Maybe this is just a test run I believed so obviously, those that are participating are outside of the top 100. But if this become successful, we might, just see another regular masters event at least in the next coming months. Every precautionary measures have been put into place. So let's see how this 'exhibition' match will turn out.

At least they have given the chance to have a tennis game which all fans are missing. Yes, there are precautionary measures put in place so we might not appreciate it at the beginning since no one can watch it live and cheer for their favourite player. But tennis should adapt as well in this crisis, the price is not that attractive but it is understandable because the players involved are not in the top 10 or even top 50 players. As tennis fans, this is a win-win situation and we all know that tennis is not a contact sport per definition so this is a good test run game.

Yes, so everything to continue the sports even in this pandemic should be consider good news isn't it.

At least organisers and players alike are trying to make the best of the situation, move forward and play tennis again. Although the pandemic continue to grow every day in every country, at least we have learn so much about it that we can lessen the impact by those precautionary measures mentioned in the article.

So let this tournament goes and then the tennis federation can decide later what course they are going to take specially big tournaments in the remaining calendar year.

This will be interesting to see how it goes as if its all good then we could see tennis return sooner then later even though things don't really seem to be changing when it comes to world wide cases slowing down. It doesn't look like it will end anytime soon but hopefully this works for us tennis fans and we get to see some tennis very soon.

Yeah, as other posters have said, this is going to be very interesting because this is the first tournament that we are going to see or read in the news (pun intended!).  I guess the Tennis organizers realized that the pandemic will continue as cases are growing everyday. But they can't just sit this out, they have to do something and this is their best effort to learn the sport continue for the meantime. And despite of the looming threat, it's all good as measures have been implemented. Hopefully, this will eventually work so we might see games around slowly.

I hate to be the bearer of the bad news but according to the organiser this type of tournament won’t be repeated where top ranking players reside, however there’s one good news too that two more similar tournaments shall be played once this tournament ends. Furthermore I’m not sure if this will be a hit as there’re no top ranking players to cheer for, but then again since we haven’t seen Tennis tournament in quite a while maybe we’ll like it.

Quote

Tennis fans worried this tournament is a one-off will be relieved to hear that Rapson has two more lined up in Germany and another four in Atlanta in the US -- the first of which gets underway on May 11 -- featuring names such as Donald Young, Taylor Townsend and Shelby Rogers.

However, he dismissed the idea of similar events being held in places around the world where many of the top ranked players reside, such as Spain, France or Miami, and will continue helping lower-ranked players earn an income during the coronavirus pandemic.

Thanks @ Juggy777 for the update. I guess this kind of tournaments are geared towards those low rank players so that at least they have something to put in their pocket while we are still in the lock down. I'm just hoping that this will go full blown tournament so that we can continue tennis as we all know that this is a contact less sports, so the risk is minimal as compare to other sports. Just maybe there is a small chance that high rank players will 'insist' the tournament organizers to let them play.  Smiley

Smiley

Yes, it's a gesture to help low rank players get over with this corona virus situation we are in right now. The price money is too small for top rank players to enter this tournament and its good that they are allowing low rank to earn. It is not enough money, but the people behind are looking for their fellow tennis players here and I think this is a good start and I'm sure that those players appreciate what the organisers are doing. High rank players should help though and not compete. Maybe there could be some exhibitions match to raise money.

Its good to see that they want to help the lower ranked players however I'm not sure if many people will be interested to watch their games as most like to see the top ranked players playing. Will the matches be broadcast on T.V? Even though it doesn't really interest me all that much, I may still watch some matches as I do miss watching tennis. They must try and raise the money from some where and by having it on T.V at least they can earn some revenue apart from the sponsors of the tournament.

You can see the Tennis point Exhibition here.

https://www.tennis.com/pro-game/2020/05/watch-demand-tennis-point-exhibition-seriesgermany-day-4-may-4/88648/

But I don't know if this has a live telecast on TV though. It will be good if there is one, maybe for the meantime mate you can just watch it online, to get the boredom out of ourselves. This pandemic really affect us all including the urge to gambling.

Quote
The Tennis Point Exhibition Series is a 12-day event divided into three sessions, the first running May 1-4. (The second runs May 7-10; the third runs May 14-17.) Is it the first time professional tennis players are competing in an organized event since COVID-19 decimated the tennis calendar beginning with the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells.

So we might catch the second and third run of this exhibition series so be ready.

@Kemarit the link shared by you contains a very small video of the tournament, yet it felt really good to see some tennis action after such a long time. Furthermore I googled a bit to see if we could watch live matches of this tournament, and according to Tenniswordlive (site) we can stream these matches live on bet365 (site), so I thought to let you’ll know in case anyone’s keen to watch these matches live.

it is good to know that tennis is back on
maybe we could catch some larger tournaments this season, could not say that Wimbledon could be back, because i doubt that, but US Open could be the one for the season, or they can push Roland Garros earlier than October, we will see, but i do not think that audience will be present on either one

It seems that big tennis tournaments are in danger of being canceled.
Executive Director of the Australian Tennis Federation, Craig Tiley, is worried that Australia open, like other big tennis tournaments, could be cancelled.
The biggest problem is that all players who come to play in Austalia should first be quarantined for 2 weeks, and they would also have to be quarantined in the next country after leaving Australia for two weeks again.
Who would agree under such conditions to travel and play?

Well when it comes to Australia, we have been lucky enough to keep the virus under control but what worries me is that now the Government is looking at easing the lock down when we are coming into our flu season which could very well put next years Australian Open at risk as if there is a spike in cases here once Australia starts to open up then it could take months before it is back under control. I really don't think any Government around the world knows what to do right now as look at Germany they opened up and now there cases have been increasing daily. We just don't know when this will ever end and when we'll get to see any top ranked tennis played.

Why not test the players though? Yes, quarantine is the "basic" thing to do for any person, but I guess testing them prior to the tournament will be good. However, there is a cost and we don't know if tennis federation will shoulder it just to see another grand slam tournament in Australia. Anyhow, I think tennis fans have already anticipated that there will be no big tournaments or grand slam for this year. Again, still boils down to safety and how the virus is going to be contained in the next coming months.

I'm one of them fans who has come to the fact that we may not see any big tournament played this year and I said this from the start when there was an outbreak in the virus and sporting events were shutting down. Its sad to see but we must get through this some how and if keeping sports shut down is the way to go for the long term then I guess we must wait it out.

Yes, I already said to myself that there will be no more Grand Slams for this year because of the pandemic. Although there are tournaments that I link, it's mostly for low rank players and I was hoping that they could organize somewhat for some high rank players as well. It's just sad, but we can't do anything about it for now. Although testing players before they actually play any tournaments, it might not be a good solution as it will really involved money.

Although testing players before they actually play any tournaments, it might not be a good solution as it will really involved money.

do not expect for AO to be cancelled, it is too far from this point, but US open is under a question mark for sure, even without audience, it will be clear in the near future, RG is postponed for October, did not read that it is cancelled so far, only Wimbledon is completely canceled
