Hello Everyone!

First, before I ask my questions I wanted to say this is a fantastic community and just by searching a majority of my questions have been answered. I have some questions I was not able to find here.

I just recently invested in a S5 along with the required supplies I should have the unit shortly am I am excited!

1. The current subnet I have is 10.x block and I have been told the S5 is configured to the 192.x block how would I configure this or would it be best to hook it up to a 192.x block and reconfigure it?

2. The S5 will be running in a extra room that I have.. I hope to expand my setup with one more unit if things go well. Regarding noise is there any fan modifications I can do? I noticed some units are running 1 or 2 fans.

3. What pool would you recommend for the most successful running a S5? Daily payouts, low fees?

4. How can I remotely monitor the unit or mining status using my iPhone?

Thank you,

Matt

Hello mate and welcome to the Bitcoin forum and to our world!

These are all great questions and I am sure some of the users that are more competent with mining will answer them in no time. But to this happen as soon as possible, I suggest that you move your thread to the mining thread or one of the mining child boards.

Cheers!

1. I think you'll have to connect at least once on the 192 subnet to configure your miner.
2. It is possible to change the stock fans to something that produces less noise (-dB) and have similar performance (= or + CFM). S5's should always be running 2 fans (push and pull).
3. Any popular pool is good. Over the long run it's very similar. My personal favorite is Eligius, no fee, no fluff and decent payout structure, although it is more restrictive on payouts.
4. Most pools offer a way to monitor your mining activity. You can just bring it up in a web browser.

If your miner has two fans it should already be fine. In the image below, imagine your miner instead of the heat sink.
The basic idea is that you want a fan to pushes the hot air out and pulls in cool air.

Thank you for this information! Would I connect it to the PSU or a port on the S5?

I would just get things running with the single fan that Bitmain designed it with. Once that is all sorted and you can hear the noise & see the temperature it runs at you can start looking into changing the fans.

If you search the Forum you will find a number of recommendations. The fan(s) need to have 4 pin connectors like the original. If fitting 2 there is a second connector on the controller board.
