I've been involved in Bitcoin and this community for a long while now, and I have seen many Bitcoin services rise, being promised as the killer app that would greatly increase adoption, and then fail or just change to something entirely different, or just not meet the expectations. These range from remittance services to lotteries.

What exactly do you guys think is a service that will actually benefit the rest of the population? It doesn't have to "increase adoption" or anything of the sort, it just has to use the blockchain/bitcoin in some way and another.

I'd have to really think about it to define what the best one would be. I'd say that a app that enables you to get bitcoin in < 10 minutes would probably go big. At the moment acquiring Bitcoin is not as easy as it should be.

But the problem is cellphones are really not very secured platforms for doing such transactions, if you use it through some kind of banking app to an exchange that let you buy BTC with your interact/debit card, then its a lot of personal information you're chugging through with very weak security.

What may work better is an app that let you substitute a BTC payment with a debit payment by going through a payment processor.

A bitcoin "Kille" app would be an app that would fix a major issue for bitcoin user. A major issue of the bitcoin protocol is the long transaction time, so an app that could solve it could be the next "Killer" app.

This would be really difficult to build since you would need a system that would convert the btc to fiat, and all of them usually charge a fee transaction.

It's not a service, it's greed.

That would bring some serious micropayments! How would you envision it checking if you actually watch the movie? Answer a short captcha about the movie at the end or something?

Would be quite hard for a new service to get the movie volume, maybe porn could give an additional reward to its viewers? Wink

Bitcoin itself is the "killer app" which provides monetary freedom in a world with ever increasing capital controls.

Most people fear freedom and responsibility though, so don't expect the "mainstream" to get involved any time soon.

If you aren't the sole controller of your private keys, you don't have any bitcoins.

An app that acts as or offer some kind of another layer of protection to make our transaction anonymous/untraceable without having to use a third party services to mix the coins and charge us a fee. I'm not sure how it can be done, I can't imagine if that is possible but something with that kind of feature would be cool. For sure, it will enhance bitcoins reputation

Yes, this! Bitcoin should be considered in its entirety a killer application with many different use cases. You see that even governments cannot make a agreement and classify Bitcoin the same. For some it's a commodity, for some currency, for some it's nothing.

You have a technology that allows you to send someone half around the world money and to have it readily available for spending in about 10 minutes even on Sunday, this is a pretty damn good killer application right away for me.

It doesn't have to be huge amounts. I doubt that someone would try to hack your phone for $50. This is not a process that is simply done. Besides, a lot of people use various applications exposing a lot of their credentials.

Most people fear freedom and responsibility though, so don't expect the "mainstream" to get involved any time soon.

Most people are afraid of freedom? That's doubtful at best. The problem is that they're ignorant and deluded (+ stuck in the past).

IMO making such app is easy. The app just calculates the minimum tx fees for the transaction to be included in the next block. If you are willing to pay that amount of fees, there will be no problems to get your tx confirmed in the next 10 minutes.

Bitcoin has revolutionized so many things. Ppl are so dumb to realize it yet. Ppl just put attention on the negative things what we need to improve, like confirmation time, security, volatile price, easy to use etc.

Vineyard's apps:
Coinhopper, bitcoin flapper,...

Users can play these games, and get some bitcoin in return... So they have to download a wallet, and they're on their way to become bitcoin users  Grin
