Just in: Derrick Rose has been waived by the Memphis Grizzlies.  Embarrassed

Derrick Rose: Parting ways with Memphis

There are rumors that Rose himself has expressed a desire to leave the team. And it seems that Rose and the Grizzlies' management agreed on a buyout after he asked to be released from his contract. If that's true, it's a strange decision.
I don't know if he made this decision because of injuries or other reasons, but I wouldn't be surprised if he decided to retire.
I don't know as well, but there's something at the back of my mind telling "there will be a team that might sign him in the future", and TBH, there might be.
I mean who expected Isaiah Thomas being signed by the Hornets and the Suns in the past? Yes it's a short time, but the point is, there's some interest in him still. I believe it's the same with Rose. Injuries really affected his NBA career, but I think he can still play 10 minutes per game, can be a good PG and can lead those youngsters out there. Who knows? We might see him being signed by the Chicago Bulls again. That would be the perfect time to retire as an NBA player.

---
"Dark Horse" I like the sound of that. The New York Knicks had been doing great at rebuilding their team. The now Quadro Villanova players in their team will probably get some good chemistry although they are still playing small ball without Robinson.
In addition to "without Robinson", I've seen a Facebook Post (Courtside Buzz) telling that Mitchell Robinson might not be able to play at the start of the 2024-2025 NBA season.

He will be out for the next 2-3 months and in that time span, the Knicks might play at least a quarter of the regular season games already. If the Knicks really want to compete, they need to get a Center or at least a big that would help them defend the paint, and as I'm looking on who's a free agent right now, there's notable name out there unfortunately.

With the regular season just months away from starting now, it won’t be long before we get a look at the teams for this coming year. I’ve gotta say, I wish there was some more big movement in the offseason. Seems like everyone is just trying to get healthy. Paul George and Klay Thompson provided a little excitement, but I want to see Giannis, Luka, Steph, Zion, KD or LeBron change teams.

I am with you. This offseason was rather calm, also because there haven't really been big free agents on the market. Sure PG13 is a big name but he slowly is getting old as well.
I really expected some action surrounding Zion or at least Brendan Ingram but somehow the Pelicans decided to stay put. Maybe they will do something in the next trading window, trying to bring up the value a little bit. BI didn't really have a convincing 23/24 season so it can only get better from this point. He has so much talent normally, no clue why he is on a decline.

KD might be a candidate to switch teams for sure, he is always sitting on packed bags, haha. But I doubt Steph or Luka will go anywhere. Since LBJ has Bronny on his side now I also don't see him going away from LA but maybe he chases another ring so that might change his mindset.
About Giannis, there are definitely some rumors at the moment, especially GSW and Dallas are very interested to land him but what can they actually offer for him?? I don't see any trade scenario there.

I guess that there is a lot of possibilities with Giannis but it will take time until then.

As for Steph, I don't think that the Warriors will let him go and the same goes for Luka. Although some rumors about Steph and Lebron teaming up.

I think that we'll never see such thing in the nearest future. And for KD, he's known for that so when he's done with the Suns, he'd move elsewhere but where?

This is why he's not playing a back to back game since his team make sure that he's well rested. That's the problem on crucial games since instead of they can look forward for his contribution the team will get worried about his health if he could able to continue or will got injured.

After this contract if his status remain like that maybe other team might doubt to offer him a big contract again. He's aging player and that's bad business for a team if they get a injury prone player. NBA is business and they need a player that can lift their team to championship since this will determine the value of their team also the revenue they can possibly get from their fans. But for now Kawhi is a hot player for them and still Clippers still value his contribution for his team.
I feel like while Clippers is not trying to piss Kawhi off while he is still on the team, I am pretty sure that he is probably not going to end up with getting any love from them when the contract ends either. Dude missed so many games and Clippers will want to either trade him away, or just not sign him back, because that's a ton of money on their cap space that is going to waste right now.

They have been trying to win something with him, but they failed so far and I think it's clear that we are not going to see them do that well this season neither, they are losing players to other teams and Kawhi could leave too and then they could rebuild. While it is not ideal to keep rebuilding, they definitely do not have a chance to win anything with their current roster.

Clippers put so much effort into Kawhi but it didn't come to any wins at all, Lakers must be feeling quite happy that their deal was rejected, if they got him, they would have to lose every other good player and just be Kawhi and Lebron and AD and just 9 other minimum contracts that's it, which wouldn't have won anything. Now they have a few other decent players, not like they are doing great now, but at least they won a title and Clippers didn't.

That seems to be where this is going for his team. I just wish that the Bull are still going to honor him and will give him even a year or two contract even for low amount.

That's probably a good choice for him if he's given that opportunity. To retire to the team that he beloved the most.

I mean Kawhi could definitely play like 50 games a season to not have a too much load on his body and the team would be fine with it. You have to be an incredible star to convince the team to play only 50 games and they are still willing to pay you the max and keep you happy. I think it's clear that we are going to see this not changing anytime soon neither. If his injuries still keeps going then I am guessing that he is going to end up with a lot more earlier retirement than we thought he would have, and that is not going to be easy at all because everyone likes him too, aside from maybe Spurs fans.

Having early career ending injuries is something NBA fans know all too well, many players had that, and Kawhi could have retired already considering how he has been, but he decided to stay and basically get paid to be injured and play a few games time to time, and as long as teams are willing to pay for it, then why wouldn't he take the money anyway?

Jimmy’s hairstyle has definitely become a sensation, especially after surprising us last season with that look. Now, it’s even up on bookies for betting--what a move, Jimmy. Just got me thinking, do bookies have limits on wagers for that particular their lines? Like, what if Jimmy told all his friends to bet on him going bald for $1 million, and he made sure it happens? Easy cash, right?

Not sure about the Bulls. But it's likely that the media will get an update from Derrick Rose on his next steps in the NBA in the coming days or weeks. In the meantime, it's only known that Rose won't receive any of his $3,3 mln salary for the 24/25 season after the Grizzlies waived him upon his own request. Undecided

Yeah, I remember him donning like a "emo" style of haircut last season.

For Derrick Rose, I'm not sure if the Chicago Bulls will get him or even honor him. If he has given that city at least one ring during his prime, he could have been put in the rafter together with his number. Unfortunately, they fell short even if DRose won that MVP, he wasn't able to push the Bulls in the finals when he was really at his peak and very athletic. At least though, he was able to recover and play some seasons after his injury and all we can think of is the "what if" he didn't get injured and continue to be that high flyer during his time with the Bulls.

Let’s just wait and see, because it's possible. There have been plenty of popular players in the past who didn’t win a championship, but their teams still chose to honor them by retiring their jerseys. A few examples are Reggie Miller, Charles Barkley, and Karl Malone.

Lol, that emo looks of Jimmy Butler was really trending that time, not just the hair but the nails as well, Lol.

In the case of other players that you mentioned though, they chooses to stay with their teams until their retire, like Reggie Miller and Karl Malone. Unlike in the case for DRose, he was traded by the team obviously because he got injured so bad that they don't think that he can make a recovery.

We are just couple of weeks from the opening of a new season, and so I think everyone here is very excited already as we can go and bet again.  Grin

Its like people now are waiting on what will be the new hair style of Jimmy Butler each season. This creates huge attention to media since many people always grab that news.

For many times there are so many discussion about Bulls should get back Rose to their team but nothing happens. If Bulls would really want this to happen then provably this comeback already happened before. But its like they cannot get anything on Rose return that's why maybe they ignore this idea and just focus on other things that can help their team. Although its really good to see if this event will happen, but I think what's better for Rose now is to retire since he earn so many heart break so far and he don't need to prove himself anymore. Many fans would remember his greatness and also great remark which he achieve the youngest MVP record in NBA history.

Lol! This ones hilarious though. But, I am not considering braids, dreadlocks, or emo hairstyles. I think he's done that already If my memories serves me right. There's gonna be a huge chance that Jimmy won't be repeating those styles.
IMO, afro, mohawk or pigtails is most likely he's gonna do this time, if he's considering again in giving us such hilarious and surprising hairstyles in media day lol.

And it means that the Bulls are not interested on getting him to be at least to finished his career as a Bull. So I do agree, they really forget about how DRose did help them or at least a promise that they will retire in the limelight since MJ. It is just very unfortunate to see him getting injured and then he lost all his athleticism, high flyer and then he has also a killer cross over. He even had a battle with a prime Lebron in the East.

It's just all business at the end of the day for the Bulls, maybe they will recognized him, but I don't see them getting him back for those memories. Still if ever DRose will decide to retire, we as fans witness one of the best player in this generation.

but I want to see Giannis, Luka, Steph, Zion, KD or LeBron change teams.

Yeah, I'm not seeing Steph leaving the Warriors, he could be just one of those few players that will finished their careers with the team that draft team. And there is no need for Steph to go out and try his luck on free agency.

He had build the Warriors dynasty already, and that is good enough for him to cemented his legacy with them. And with his performance in the recent Olympics, Steph already put his name on top. Giannis? perhaps, as we can see the frustrations in him when they exit the playoff. Luka? he is still trying, and with Klay now with Dallas, he will go out for another championship run.

I feel sorry for him at that time since its like he's been dumped by his team. That determine that Bulls is not going after with their long departed player since there's nothing to get from him. Those situations tells everything that NBA is pure business. They only want those players when they are healthy and solid contributor, but once they are done with him then think he's not good for their team they immediately dump them. I know management always want the best for their team, but its really unfortunate to hear such story where a player want to became loyal to their franchise but unexpected things happened.

I don’t think the Bulls really owe Rose to the point they need to sign him to let him retire there. He’s pretty much retired several times already now. He was never the same after his injury due to his athletic play style and now he’s aging to the point he really can’t provide teams with much. He got plenty of chances. He wasn’t able to live up to what could have been, but what is now is over.
