The first things which come to my mind are luck, risk, greed(be careful), and having fun.

I think most people come to gambling is for becoming rich even they know that it is quite impossible task. That's why so many people you can see lost money in gambling. If they don't come for making money then they might have quit gambling after losing initial few dollars. But most of them are chasing money so they will play until they lose all money.
