I try to NOT be so formal about my period, but instead I try to be harmonized without writing it down.

Actually, i understand that the activity period remains more important as you rank up, but once you become legendary, it seems to be less important, even though I still do like to see my activity number growing - probably even if we try to NOT be conscious of the whole ranking process, there is something that makes us feel good to increase in rank, which is partly accounted through activity period, and now with the merit system...  For example, even though currently legendary members don't really need more merits because currently, there is no regular forum rank beyond legendary (apart from receiving some kind of special appointment by theymos), yet it still feels good to receive recognition for posts through the merit system.  Actually, when I first started giving out my smerits, I would give them out pretty generously based on already being familiar with some of the post history of other members or getting some kind of decent appreciation of a post of a new member.  Surely as time passes, all of us will likely become more discerning regarding how we dish out our smerits, and surely it may take some time for forum administration to really verify how it is playing out (or gamed) and various ways to tweak the whole merit system by also figuring out if some deserving members are not receiving merits because there are not enough merit sources or some other possible appropriate and reasonable tweaks to this new system of acquiring new kinds of points.

By the way, I am thinking that stevegee might be a relative of mine, perhaps a cousin 5 or 8 times removed.  Perhaps?

Oh maybe this next time I'll hit it. I'm not very "lucky" but also don't believe in luck, so I'm just looking at the odds thinking, I'll probably hit it somewhere deep into 900 something activity. I know that worst case scenario I end up getting Legendafy status 5 months from now, so August ish. No biggie.

Don't take it so unhappy, it could be worse... At least, you have the 1000 merit that's needed to rank up, so you are more lucky than the others with the same activity but without the 1000 merits. So you only need to wait, the others needs to gather merits if they want to rank up ever to legendary. (which could take not only 5 months but years)
So feel yourself extremly lucky

Got the merits.. now need the activity! I wasn't fussed about leveling up, now that I have cracked the 1K merits I think it will piss me off every 2 weeks. The way my luck is running I wont get it till over 1K activity!

Well congrats man on the way to Legendary, for me it is still a long way to go because i need activity and merits. I will try to look at your account and want to make sure how lucky you are based on your activity points when you become Legendary Member

Hey!  I have not seen you around here in a while and did not notice you'd finally ranked up to Legendary.  Congratulation; you earned it.

I know the data is around here somewhere, but I don't know who, if anyone, ranked up to the big L last period.  If there actually were any, congrats to them too.

And TMAN, you're approaching the L Zone very soon, and not surprisingly you already have enough merits to match the activity.  Hopefully you won't have to wait until the very end of the interval like I did.  Man, when I ranked up it was so close to when Theymos started the merit system that I almost got caught on the hamster wheel.

Man I have been here for long enough, but I spent a long time lurking after a few losses on bad investments in the Securities bubble (Fuck Freidcat and Labcoin). I don't believe anyone else has got the 500 merits from Hero to Legendary yet... will I be the 1st to level up?

I think I reached it at around the mid 800’s in Activity terms. You’ll reach it in no time buddy, you’ve already done the hard bit getting to 1000 Merit points seems as though you must have started at 500 with the new system?

Congrats, it seems you'll be really the first one who made it to become a legendary with the merits you have deserved.
Take it easy and think about the others, who maybe has already reached the activity level but they're still struggling with the merits... seems so similar but it's a totally different problem
It's better for you that you don't know when you will become a legendary, but it's only depens on your luck because you have done your work now so the question is not about becoming a legendary but when.
I have read about the legendary activity calculation in a thread somewhere, and it seems that a function calculates the activity needed from the hash of a text (which contains your user ID and some 'salt' in the database which is a secret seed) and because of the unique user ID, it differs for each member.
Don't be impatient, you're fine already with your achievement, so be proud of it instead

I'm wondering if it's possible for the Hero members to check somehow if they have already reached the activity limit to become a Legendary, and it's only Merits that holds the rank up process back.
This is only a problem of the Hero members who already reached the 775 activity (and haven't reached 1030), but don't have 1000 Merits. Before the merit system, if you have reached the 775 activity limit, you were waiting for every second Tuesday to see if you have ranked up to Legendary or not, and if you were really unlucky, you had to wait until 1030 activity to become a Legendary, but as soon as you have reached the activity limit, you became a Legendary.
After the Merit system, those Hero members who were so unlucky that they there were only a few activity periods away from the rank up minimum of the Legendary rank, now are in a doubt, they don't know if they have already reached their personal activity limit and they only need to gather Merits (if they are below the 1030 activity), or they still need to gather the activity too, because they haven't reached their limit already.
I know this is only really minor part of the userbase, but I hope someone can understand the motivation behind this post

For most people, merit will be the limiting factor. People who are close to achieving legendary status can focus on achieving the required merit levels, the activity will automatically accumulate.

I think I will be the one to continue your legacy for being a hero forever. All my friend account are already turned to legendary even though we started to join in this forum almost in the same month. Hoping for that shiny purple coin will be added soon on mine in next update. I think that involving and commenting on this thread will gives a good chime.
