Building bitcoind on xubuntu 12.04

Hi everyone,

I'm having problems compiling bitcoind on my xubuntu 12.04 system.
It's all about the libdb4.8* packages -

I added the bitcoin PPA, but this way I can only install libdb4.8-dev, it does not offer libdb4.8++-dev.

What *exactly* will break if I use a new version of libdb (the one that comes with 12.04)?
Will everything work except I cannot use the blockchain/wallet with a bitcoind compiled with an older libdb-version?

What can I do to compile it with libdb4.8? Where can I get the libdb4.8++-dev package?

AFAIK, if you are starting with a clean datadir you can sure use a newer / different BDB version.

I'm also running Xubuntu 12.04, and I've compiled bitcoind before. I don't recall having any problems but before compiling, all the dependencies were already in place from installing the Bitcoin-qt client from the PPA.
