Even in the event that an attacker gains more than 50% of the network's computational power, only transactions sent by the attacker could be reversed or double-spent. The network would not be destroyed.

it's not about time only, it's about adoption, as i see it, if 1B people or 100M-1B people around the world begin to use bitcoin, we can say that bitcoin made it already, and it was a success otherwise not so much

i would say that it is remained a niche market

Watch the presentation done in the first quarter of 2014 and see where we were --> http://www.slideshare.net/CoinDesk/coindesk-state-of-bitcoin-q1-2014 and compare that to

where we are now --> http://www.slideshare.net/CoinDesk/state-of-bitcoin-2015?related=1  ... Now project that to 3 or 4 years from now, based on the information provided.

It has proven that it can stand the test of time. The Ponzi label was just a figment of a shills imagination, clouded by the money they are receiving to spread FUD about Bitcoin.  Roll Eyes

bitcoin made it already.
In my opinion it has too.
Having so many with a pure fascination for it goes to show that.

Bitcoin will "make it" when it starts being a viable option in all stores and when most people start using it daily. We will make it when people start looking at Bitcoin as money Smiley

Can't agree more with this. The only problems that remain are what are we going to do with it.

As an experiment Bitcoin has definitely made it already. Even though not many have invested in it I see that most of the people that should know about it (mainly technical and financial folks). I see a bright future for it although this future might not be exactly what was expected in 2009-2010.

If bitcoin is a ponzi, it would have disappeared when the price dropped from $1200. And the price will never recover. Bitcoin is going stronger and stronger day after day.

I mean people still like to compare BTC to a ponzi --

Those people are irrelevant as BTC is clearly not a ponzi.

Whether BTC will gain mainstream adoption is another story entirely.

I'd think after year 10 it would be time to throw a huge party.

It will definitely make it to 10 years. Thing is, if it is a ponzi, at the most the price would fall to a dollar or so, but again even then it won't die off. No matter what the price, it will continue to live.

wel bitcoin is not a ponzi, but if your rebuttle to those that claim it is, is to tell them to wait it out for 2019.. thats not really discrediting their lack of knowledge.

inform them that if they think its a ponzi. then gold is too..

after all if your gonna play the wait it out argument. they can easily win the argument with a few examples
Forever living aloe vera recruitment fee
avon recruitment fee
and many other MLM schemes that have been running for decades.

so try to explain bitcoin not as a 'investment' as thats what many see bitcoin as.. show them its a currency.. show them Dell accepting it. and the other 100,000 retailers around the world..

then ask them how many shops accept aloe vera or makeup as a form of currency

For BTC to have value of $300+ of course btc had already made it and with community so active every day, I wont be surprise if one day if more and more online shops will accept btc in the future.

I think it already has made it.  It opened the possibility of a social/financial movement without a central authority.  Bitcoin may fail, but the cat is out of the bag.

Maybe even fiat is one. I don't think any ponzi has survived for so long though. + a Ponzi can lost forever epending on the scheme. Bit coin clearly isn't one, and people who think so should consider all the factors.
