My machine crashed, the Bitcoin client database is broken, and after reinstalling the client (saved wallet before!) the old bitcoin address is gone.
That's bad since some pay-per-share mining pool owed me some fractions of a bitcoin to that address.
Is there a way to make the client use the old address again, or are some fractions of a bitcoin now lost forever due to database crash?

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I'm not sure I fully understand your problem, but as long as you're using the correct wallet.dat, the addresses are all in there. Are you referring to "your address" displayed at the top of the client interface? That's just the most recent address generated, you can have as many as you like. There's a menu that lists all the addresses in your wallet.dat.

Selling out to advertisers shows you respect neither yourself nor the rest of us.

Apparently I'm stupid. When I copied back the wallet backup the address came back as you said. Didn't read that in the manual... :-)
