Hi
ill try and keep this short in the hope that it'll get read on a dreary? monday morning!
I'm new to this and i got my addresses all mixed up and sent thse few bitcoins to another address that wasn't my other wallet!!  so its  sitting in the blockchain somewhere  the amount  BTC 1.6283 =  about £350. Thing is the amount has not being taken from my account. Is there any way of getting it back? I read somewhere (probably morebitcoin folklore) that if its not recieved within 7 days its returned to who sent it is this true or should i be all ZEN and say goodbye to my bitcoins and move on having learned a lesson to keep all my address in order.

I thank you .

S

I'm not quite sure if the "7 day thingy and you will get you're coins back" is true.

What do you mean the bitcoin is not taken from your wallet? I don't quite understand.

should i be all ZEN and say goodbye to my bitcoins and move on having learned a lesson to keep all my address in order.

This should be your best option either you got it back or not. You should take this a lesson and always double check the address that you are sending.

I don't get it how you mixed up your addresses.  Undecided

I've never heared about a 7 day waiting period...

If you send coins to an address that has not been generated, i think they'll just sit in this address forever, since nobody has the private key to this address (since it hasn't been generated by anybody).

IF it's an address you copy/pasted, and it does exist, you can always try to find the owner, or send him a message... And hope he's kind enough to refund your money (no guarantees)

That is ironical to what you say after

You say you made a mistake and sent the BTCs.
Is there any way of getting it back?
All transactions are final unless you have 51%+ of the hash power of the network, it was a double spend or if it had no transaction fees.
The only hope is if you didn't add a transaction fee to it, in which case it will most likely be discarded by the miners and you should get it back .

Lets stop the wild guesses, if you give us a transaction ID and tell us what wallet software / service you are using we might be able to give you concrete advice.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.

Thanks Shorena
the wallet transaction id. is  3caaa2f85e0fea18f865fed7b63e07ab0556185f1b3775b8ed268c1214710103
im using Electrum (latest version) . I do not know a thing about cold/hot wallet storage  and I know I shouldn't really be allowed to waste peoples time by putting posts up here because its all my own fault I lost my money ...blah blah blah.
Oh more more thing I have been constantly logged into my Electrum wallet it seems and when I found this out this morning I logged out ...and now I cant find the log in page...any ideas what path I should take  apart from the obvious one! Cry    oh well C'est la vie

I thank you

thanks,

I will have to assume a bit here, but from what I see in the TX the address 15RUfJ3Ck3M1ADpRBnmpdTiBWhhXR55eB7 is yours and you send a small amount ~0.001 to an address starting with 112k2... If this is indeed correct the address 1Ack1ff... is yours as well. When you create a bitcoin TX you have to use the input(s) (the left part on the blockchain explorer, e.g. here[1]) entirely. Like a 1.99996313 BTC bill. You can however split it in as many outputs (the right part on blockchain explorers) as you want. Electrum sends the change back to itself using a new address. These are listed as "change" (right below "receiving") in your "addresses" tab in electrum.

This would explain what you describe because the coins are not actually gone, but are at a different address and because you did not expect this you did not know what happened.

I hope this is somehwat close to the truth, if not feel free to ask more questions.
