Hi, i just have my mastercard debit card, and the car renter just accept credit cards for paying the renting service itself + the money hold. If at the moment of payment i give my debit card saying that's a credit card, with a balance that can cover all the costs, could it works?

Anything you can do with a credit card, you can do with a debit card.

Can someone confirm this statement?

I mean, if a merchant require a credit card, and i give him my debit telling that is a credit card, he/the pos can't recognize if is debit or credit as long as there is enough balance to pay?

As i know many companies for reserving a car or a hotel room accept only credit cards, but you have a debit card and want to pay with it in person, so i think you can there is no difference for paying if you have the amount needed on your card. You can also go the the nearest ATM and withdraw the money and pay in cash. The second one can be your backup plan if the payment with a debit card doesn't work Smiley)).

Because it's for a travel, so i want to be at least almost sure that it works when i'll arrive at my destination

Verify the number you sent in their website, look at it, scan it. They are different transaction types.

I had the same problem trying to rent a car in Iceland, in the end had to pay the extended insurance. But it depends on where you are going, in Europe already it is very different. You're expected to have a credit card in Nordics and Britain (but can pay most by debit card but not reserve) it's unneccesary in Central and Southern Europe. Balkan is "cash or gtfo"

Most car rental companies will charge you a deposit if you are using your debit card compared to a credit card.  They do this because of the approval process for the debit card compared to the credit card.  It all depends on the rental company.

If you face this problem then i suggest withdraw money with you ATM card and pay in cash. According to policy credit card accepted everywhere. But you have sufficient cash also to prevent any difficult situation. Good luck in future.
