do you need to encrypt the wallet that is on the vps? the coins are located on the active wallet on my computer if i followed the guide right but is running through the vps wallet on that ip? I have just added the masternodeprivkey to the conf on the vps? bit confusing. Where will the coins made from the nodes go as well?

No need to encrypt the wallet on the VPS since there will never be coins there. Yes, the coins stay on your local wallet where they are safer, you don't even need your local wallet running after you use it to start the remote Masternode. The coins earned for running the Masternode will show up in your local wallet.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

(EXPOSED IP's)

not even all of them at that

That is ugly.  When I figure out how, I'm going to submit a proposal to switch the network to 100% TOR like some other coins.  Dev, can you confirm that's possible?

Tor would mean that you can run as many masternodes on one computer (1 IP) as you want. That causes centralization.

Whats up with this wallet, i narrowed it down to this 40mb wallet, it way over loads my pc, no balance, no staking, 4 cores on 100%.  i close the wallet the computer calms down, i open it, bam right back to 100% on all 4 cores . . . WTF is it doing, its synced and just sitting there.  Not a fan of your wallet taking my whole pc just to run

Weird, this is one of my favourite wallets. Fast to start, responsive and when I close it, it closes and won't linger around the many other wallets do. It never used much CPU to me.

Not your keys, not your coins!

Super AWESOME and helpful post.

Thank you very much!  Great explanation.

No worries. Probably also a good opportunity to dispel some media myths in regards to the term 'Dark Net'.

- "Every web page out there that google can't index" - Arma.

"A darknet (or dark net) is an overlay network that can only be accessed with specific software, configurations, or authorization, often using non-standard communications protocols and ports. Two typical darknet types are friend-to-friend networks (usually used for file sharing with a peer-to-peer connection) and privacy networks such as Tor.

The reciprocal term for an encrypted darknet is clearnet or surface web when referring to search engine indexable content."

Some good uses for a 'DarkNet' might include;

- To better protect the privacy rights of citizens from targeted and mass surveillance
- Protecting dissidents from political reprisal
- Whistleblowing and news leaks

Using Tor with addnode=.onion connectivity for P2P crypto-currency wallet connections is perhaps more accurately described as a "friend-to-friend" network, over being a 'Dark Net'.

...

The recent showtime docu-series 'Dark Net' made for some interesting, informative and disturbing viewing.

"A documentary series that explores the furthest reaches of the internet and the people who frequent it, Dark Net provides a revealing and cautionary look inside a vast cyber netherworld rarely witnessed by most of us."

A basic Linux VPS install / set-up guide here: http://xeronet.c0m.li/dnet-crypto.php - apparently a work in progress.

Reference: Set-up Fail2ban - an intrusion prevention framework;

Reference: iptables (strict) Linux VPS firewall rules;

Thanks, quoted for reference.  Will come in handy.

Anyone setting-up a 'Dual Stack' Masternode / Tor VPS might also consider running the node as a Tor Relay, providing bandwidth to other Tor users.

Client Only torrc (example) config:

Quote
ClientOnly 1

SOCKSPort 9050

SOCKSPolicy accept 127.0.0.1/8

Log notice file /var/log/tor/notices.log

ControlPort 9051

HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/dnet/
HiddenServicePort 989 127.0.0.1:51472

HiddenServiceStatistics 0

ORPort 9001

LongLivedPorts 989

ExitPolicy reject *:*

DisableDebuggerAttachment 0

NumEntryGuards 8

Amendments / additions to run as a Tor Relay (example):

SOCKSPort 9050

SOCKSPolicy accept 127.0.0.1/8

Log notice file /var/log/tor/notices.log

ControlPort 9051

HiddenServiceDir /var/lib/tor/dnet/

## A handle for your relay, so people don't have to refer to it by key.

Nickname MyDnetRelayExample

## Administrative contact information for this relay or bridge. This line
## can be used to contact you if your relay or bridge is misconfigured or
## something else goes wrong. Note that we archive and publish all
## descriptors containing these lines and that Google indexes them, so
## spammers might also collect them. You may want to obscure the fact that
## it's an email address and/or generate a new address for this purpose.
#ContactInfo Random Person <nobody AT example dot com>
## You might also include your PGP or GPG fingerprint if you have one:

ContactInfo Random Person <nobody AT example dot com>

Notice that with a Tor Relay this info. is included in the Tor Atlas and with the Tor directories (example);

- https://atlas.torproject.org/#details/8B1434497F187A5E10756F5227764324D13CC68F

Whereas CLIENT only (or Tor Bridge info. is private). So, If you can't be a Relay - be a Bridge:

Example Bandwidth setting:

## Define these to limit how much relayed traffic you will allow. Your
## own traffic is still unthrottled. Note that RelayBandwidthRate must
## be at least 20 kilobytes per second.
## Note that units for these config options are bytes (per second), not
## bits (per second), and that prefixes are binary prefixes, i.e. 2^10,
## 2^20, etc.
#RelayBandwidthRate 100 KBytes  # Throttle traffic to 100KB/s (800Kbps)
#RelayBandwidthBurst 200 KBytes # But allow bursts up to 200KB (1600Kb)

EDIT:

These settings enable a Relay to be 'useful' in terms of bandwidth, although still very unlikely to exceed the 1 TB bandwidth limits of VPS providers such as Vultr or Digital Ocean (including the dnet node bandwidth). N.B. Do not run a Tor Exit node at either Vultr or Digital Ocean, they only tolerate Tor Relays (non-exits).

Anyhow, if your not going to be running a web server on the VPS then this is perhaps a good way to utilize the bandwidth and get your 'moneys worth' from the hosting provider. 300+ masternodes, all running as Tor Relays would make for a very useful addition to the existing Tor network and for users privacy!

very nice movement, seen this go from 20K to over 100K MC now, 7th MN have been engaged and I stepped down mining a bit, proceeds from MN will go towards erecting further MN's

and no. I wont bother to sell even 1 DNET, it is not worth it not even at few mil MC, might as well help to propagate anonymous crypto systems, it is important

thanks for the opportunity!

some calculations I made , might help you to gauge if MN are profitable (if you sell, I am not that does not mean you wont) here they are

so I see 1 MN making approx 400 DNET in 24 hours cycle so x 7 MN servers thats 2800 DNET , DNET is now set @ 0.00002158 so thats 0.06 BTC or 20 bucks a day, nothing you can retire on but x 30 if market sustains , thats 600 bucks monthly , a lux car payment/lease maybe ?

and any uptick from Today's prices and it all multiplies, market knows this hence 100K MC

have a great day!

Guess so.

Also, seems that Vultr made some website updates this month and have a 'free' $50 promotion running.

Great for anyone who might not have ever used a Linux VPS before to perhaps sign-up for!

very cool, might needed at the rate MN's are crunching shares... thank you, idea of not having hot wallet in VPS is very important one to bear in mind, guide here by you and original developers regarding that as well as TOR network explanation and setup is very good

I will be honest, I missed on dash but this is so darn close both I and everyone here stand a second chance

in fact I am contemplating hard if not to sell some % of dash and allocate here... only reason I am hesitant is because dash might have innovations and that always is reflected in pricing... don't know yet.. price of 1 MN of DNET is now 0.2 BTC I believe that's super low.. we will see.. i have 0 pressure on me as I did not spend a dime outside of electricity doing it I have a luxury to hold and see drops in market value , in fact I dont care

Let me update your maths.... 1440*50/216 = 333.3 dnet per 24 hours currently x7 is 2333.33. at say 2k sats per = .046 btc per day = 18.25 USD per day

EDIT: 1440*50/253 = 284.58 dnet per 24 hours x7 is 1992 per day at 2k sats = .0398 btc per day = $15.81 usd

Has it been over 12 to 18 hours since you started them?
run "masternode list-conf" and see they are all in ENABLED status. If so, they are working.
If any are in MISSING status, then run "masternode start-missing" to start only them.

It's getting pretty hard to buy any decent amount of DNET below 2500 sat now with mini-walls starting just above it.

Anyways, I really like how the devs are not hyping this coin up a single bit. Keep up the great work guys.
Hopefully we can get the specs finalized soon with an achievable and helpful roadmap / infographic etc

That combined with being listed on more exchanges would do really good for the economy of the coin.
