If your any good at soldering little resistors you can just parrallel in some at the pencil mod location to get the desired affect in a reliable fashion. Once the resistance is modded it is just a matter of changing the freq via ssh
Have seen that done but too fiddleish for me . I could I guess try the pencil mod but I don't fancy playing around n stuff but I could I guess and see how things turn out as do have all the stuff in that guide says just guess am little worried about stuff going wrong.
Pencil Mod although fiddely is quite safe to do. You are just reducing the value of a resistor which in turn reduces the Core Voltage on the ASIC's. If you were to overdo it the worst that happens is that the voltage reduces too much and you will get HW errors. Then out with the eraser and you are back where you started.
You do however need a multimeter to check the value of resistance you have created and then optionally the Core Voltage. To get improved efficiency the resistors have to be changed as just reducing the frequency will reduce the power consumption & hash rate, however efficiency remains the same.
