Generating 200 addresses manually then making them normal colored rather than red

I need to generate 200 addresses manually. I have done so already. Problem is they are colored red and I am concerned about using them.

According to this resource it should be possible to increase the gap limit and, I suppose, thereby making the new addresses colored normally rather than red:

http://docs.electrum.org/en/latest/faq.html#how-can-i-pre-generate-new-addresses

"The red color will remain until the gap is filled." (Quote from above resource)

I have tried to increase the gap limit like so:

wallet.storage.put('gap_limit', 100)

Yet, the addresses are still colored red.

Could anyone help me out with this?

They are red to show that they are outside the normal gap, meaning would you restore your wallet from your seed they would not show up until you manually increase the gap limit again.
But other than that they are valid addresses and you can use them like all the others.

To get the red away did you restart Electrum after you increased the gap limit?
Also try to increase it with
Code:
wallet.gaplimit(200)'

Restarting the client made the red color go away.

Are the addresses safe to use now?
Should I use your method instead of mine?

Is it certain that, if I for any reason need to use the seed to restore the wallet, I can use the addresses again if I increase the gap limit as per your or my method?

They were always safe to use as long as you know what you do.

Yes

Just try it. You can have multiple wallets open in parallel.

Create a new wallet under a different name (e.g. wallet_1).
Use the same seed as you used in the default wallet.
Set the gap limit to 200 and restart electrum.

You should now have the same addresses in both wallets.
If so you are good.
If not then your seed is most probably wrong.

They are covered by the seed, yes. So you will not lose anything.

However if you restore form the seed in one, two or maybe five years. Will you remember the gap limit you set? Because the gap limit is the number of unused addresses that are derived from the seed.

In your example you now have 200 addresses in your wallet. If you only use the last 150, there will be 50 unused addresses at the "begining". Electrum will stop after 20 and show you an empty wallet.

As you keep that in mind there is nothing to worry about.

Im not really here, its just your imagination.
