building a mining rig?

So i'm looking into building a mining/gaming rig and i had a question.  Is it worth it to get dual 6990s compared to dual 6970s or 1 6990?  i know the price is outrageous, but i know that'll insanely help my output, and it'll help this rig to last a couple years without upgrading the graphics.
