I am hearing all these individuals spew juvenile nonsense of Bitcoin, this private for-profit initiative somehow being the people's currency; that it somehow enables our society when it only encourages rogue individualists and others who infringe upon the social contract this country resides.

Our duly elected officials in Washington, over decades and through our absolute democratic will, have finely chosen regulations, institutions and other tools that enable the most optimal trade and commerce our civilization can provide. However, you anarchist ruffians want to threaten it and possibly abolish it with your rogue cowardice money! How dare you!? Did you not agree to live under the boundaries we all have chosen when you decided to spend your life in this country? Did you not decide to uphold the common will?

I ask if you don't like it to leave your democratic civilizations and take your bitcoins with you! Civilized societies need none of this! We are men of order and remain we shall! Follow democracy or be terminated by our democratic, divine will! Bitcoin shall not become our currency. We shall not revert to our primordial uncivilized forms. We will have a centralized, democratic economy!

Anarchist ruffians can stay out!

Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

My fellow citizen, they are one and the same. Our country has chosen to use a separate entity to handle our money and that is The Federal Reserve. This tireless and invaluable organization makes sure our money supply is in check according to the latest state-of-the-art economic standards.

One time, our currency was infected by a stagnant pegging to commodities such as Gold and Silver, limiting our economy's ability to expand and bring the working and middle class up to standard with periodic debt. No longer! Our Federal Reserve is keeping us all alive and happy through a flexible, manageable system of trade and commerce through our wonderful currency system.

Behold the power of democracy and the power of America!

God bless it!

The FED is a cartel of private banks, it's as 'Federal' as Federal Express.

Besides, America can be described as a two party Corporate Republic (Industry versus Finance). Your idea that democracy plays an important role in the US domestic power structure is naive.

Can we drop the US propaganda? I'm pretty sure the US dollar is not "the people's currency" here.

Mind you, a lot of people (maybe even a majority) on this forum are not US citizens or trolls.

I really wish the truth was that simple... If it only wasn't for corruption a centralized government and a centralized currency could work just like that, sadly history proved time and time again it doesn't.

This corruption is only due to the unpoliced parts of our market. Businesses try to evade the regulations we have worked so hard to uphold. With more legislation and patience we can end this corruption once and for all!

There are two types of rats that work for government, the government itself and the recipients of government welfare.  If you are not in the loop you are paying for the governments tyranny.  A typical kid might spend a day working on a painting a house at the end of the day he or she might receive $200.  Should that person get to keep that money and use it at later date, or should he waste to to keep all the employees at the fed, post office, banks, lawyers, congresspersons, medicare fraud all with full wallets.  While the poor soul that actually worked, the painter has to struggle to save and plan in a corrupt system.

"That enable the most optimal trade".  How is taking from the corporations that work and giving it to those that don't work good for trade.  We should be eliminating all corporate taxes, and taxing school teachers and firefighters.   Intel, AMD build chips.  Catepillar builds tractors. Samsung builds printers.  GE builds phones.  McDonalds provides a meal for $1.   Governments don't enable trade they ruin trade by forcing minimum wage laws, regulations, taxes on the wonderful corporations and the people that work for them that provide the goods and services people actually use.  So you say the medicare program is a great program for the people, if it is so great why not give seniors the public option to opt out and get the $10,000 a year in cash as oppose to the great ripoff medicare?

"Leave the country and take you bitcoin with you."  How about this deal everything west of the mississippi uses gold and bitcoin and everything east of the Mississippi uses dollars.  In 20 years the bitcoin side would be sending food relief shipments to New York.

"Civilized Societies" killing 100,000 in Iraq so the military can justify their military budget is civilized?  The word "civilized" should be changed to neocons and liberals.  You are the men of "the new world" order.  You are the men that don't work and con the poor and middle class out of the money so the jerks that of Bernanke, Clinton, Gore, Geithner, Bush, Reich, Kennedy, et al et al et al. can live like kings while the serfs can continue to feed them.

In summary you lose caveman, get to work. You can still elect officials in a bitcoin society.

Government tyranny? How dare you! This will always be a democracy! The land of the free and the brave voters who allow this nation to prosper! When was the last time you voted, citizen? If you demand change then do your part!

Waste? Waste money on our essential government services we all benefit from? These services that enable commerce as it is? You are an insubordinate ruffian! An ungrateful parasite! You take from the benefits of our great society yet you show no pride of The American Spirit. May Uncle Sam have mercy on your soul.

Also, we do not work for merely ourselves. We work for the good of all. We have no room for rugged individualism.

Silence dissident. All these policies were enacted for the greater good in the name of democracy. If they do not work, the people will demand change. Let the process work. Besides the men in Washington have our interests at heart. All these solutions were done with good research and history in mind. Also, giving money in such a untethered manner only enables the rogue to abuse our great system. We can't have that.

"Leave the country and take you bitcoin with you."  How about this deal everything west of the mississippi uses gold and bitcoin and everything east of the Mississippi uses dollars.  In 20 years the bitcoin side would be sending food relief shipments to New York.

Unfounded. Try your anarchy elsewhere. The good people of this country deserve civilization that has been tested and improved upon over centuries. We are not to be test subjects for rogue juvenile political experiments.

What Atlas has done here...

I hope you realize that Atlas is parodying himself.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."

Thank you Atlas for this post.  Every morning I wake up to my alarm clock regulated by the US Standards and Time department.  Then I eat my breakfast monitored by the FDA.  Then I drive on government roads.  Then I use government money.  I thank the US everyday for everything that it has given to me and for allowing me to exist.

Its too late, the megapolitical entities that are in place around the world are failing.  The democracy experiment has run its course and no government, not even our industrial military welfare state, will survive the information technology revolution that is underway as we speak. The Bitcoin currency is just one part in the hand of fate that microtechnology is dealing worldwide. If it fails, another one, two, ten Huh will take its place even more superior in resistance to manipulation by the concentration of power. Look at what napster spawned! Governments, in the form that they are now, will not be sustainable.  The intellectual elite and their earning power will fly from them as fast as they can and there is nothing governments can do but transform to compete as walmart does for the concentrated form of human energy know as currency.  Buffet saw this a decade ago when he noted that there is a rapid exodus of wealth leaving the USA. The wealthy are landing in more friendly jurisdictions that are making investing in them more attractive than leaving it in a country(soon to go the way of the dodo) that confiscates ruthlessly.  Fear will make anarchy and more and more restrictive laws the norm as less and less revenue is generated from the unwilling(intelligent) and the willing(unintelligent) slaves know as citizens that are left leaving less and less to support the bloated overweight top heavy structure now in place.  This is apparent with the passing and extending of laws like the patriot act and the more and more printing of dollars.  Look at the ratio of deficit to gdp numbers around the world.  It isn't a sustainable model anymore.  Murder incorporated, or to the brainwashed by tv society, USA is trying in desperation to secure resources by having a presence (threat of violence and actual violence in the false name of securing our freedoms) in over 100 countries around the world. At least China is blatant about their grab for resources.  It doesn't matter, all forms of government will not survive long as the profit of violence is being eroded thanks to the cyber economy and soon a mutitude of cybercash currencies(bitcoin) that will be accepted where fiat currencies soon will not.  If you doubt it, look at a graphical picture of the cloud(internet) and compare it to a graphical picture of the synapses of a brain.  How big is one of the nations on the internet? pick one, lets say facebook? over 600 million citizens and growing, compared to the usa 310 million. The power of microtechnology cannot be stopped. It is integrated into the life of the global village and is transforming it exponentially.  Hang on it is about to go critical.
