kx-project drivers and SDK only supports EMU10k1 and EMU10k2 based soundcards, not EMU20k1(2,3).

I don't know if the Realtek Hd Audio sound card (onboard sound of my PCs mobo) or the AMD HD Audio device can have soundcard mining capability?

As for my MBP mid 2010 model, can someone who is more knowledgeable on the mac side of things please look up and tell me the sound card and whether or not it can be used for mining as well?

Thanks :-)

So when will someone make a miner for EMU10k1 and EMU10k2?

You're telling me that x16 lanes will mine the same speed as x4 lanes?

Yes, where have you been?  I mine on 1x, same speed as x16.

Like my post?  Consider giving me a tip! =)

well, there a bunch of Creative SB Live with the EMU10K chip at ebay, and they are really cheap.

The thing is not get confused and get the old ones that has the EMU chips... Newer cards doest uses them... like the 5.1 one.

BTW, where it says that kxdrivers does not support EMU20kx chips??? it says it support all emu chips, it fact it does support e-emu and Audigy 4 cards...

It would be pointless, too much effort for a few mhash power.

Audigy 4/Pro based on EMU10k2.5 chips: 0.18nm 200Mhz 1DSP Block, no onboard memory.

I found out that my Realtek HD audio sound card (onboard) is based on this :ALC1200. I don't know if this is hardware chip or it's all software. If it's all software then it wont be possible to DSP mine.

I'ev asked b4 but no1 seems 2 b certain as I haven't gotten much in the way of replies as such.

Here's what I wish to know:
1.Does the mobo Asus P6T SE use a hardware based sound card (onboard) or s/w? I don't know what this is about ALC1200
2.Can someone who is knowledgeable on the mac side of things tell me what sound card is on the mid 2010 15in MacBook Pro? and whether or not this can be used for DSP mining? is it h/w or s/w based?
3.How can I find out which h/w chipset my sound cards use if no1 can tell me?

Thank you

P.S.Find me an app for DSP mining if available plz :-)

The EMU10k and EMU20k series chips are FPGA chips so they could likely be re-programmed to mine bitcoins. It would take a lot of time and work but it likely wouldn't be worth it the EMU20K2 only runs at 400Mhz and has 51 million transistors.

Pretty much every other chip you will find on a soundcard would be totally worthless because they don't any of the processing and instead rely on the CPU. Every Realtek, C-Media, Via, SiS, Soundmax and any other brand you can name are in this group.

How about MWAVE sound cards from IBM which contain digital signal processors?

Dear God I can't believe this thread is still here.

There is no powerful audio DSP for mining

Every audio DSP card would never, ever, ever be able to surpass a simple x86 CPU in terms of integer processing power.  I have looked at DSPs in detail, and none of them are anywhere near fast enough for mining.  Even the cutting-edge TI C64 modern integer DSPs, which are a hundred times faster than your typical soundcard crap, will never surpass like 10 MH on the best of days.

You aren't going to find some magical mining gem in your old dusty box of audio cards.
You aren't going to find any programmer in their right mind reverse-engineer a 10-year old audio DSP so you can mine bitcoins on it.

For the love of God, please let this thread die.

i understand the H/S is gonna be low, but what about the H/J ?

It would almost certainly be terrible.  Modern fab processes are significantly more efficient in H/J vs. anything produced more than 3 years ago.

I wonder why nobody clarified this topic yet...

While a DSP can probably be used for mining modern Sound cards do not really include them. They mainly handle latency issues and timing by interrupts so that the samplerate is kept constant independent of system load.
There are dedicated DSP cards though with have some serious hulk. They are very expensive though and the processing power of the affordable ones is even less than CPUs in terms of numbers. The architecture is different but they could be viable since they are relatively common so they have a high integration.
But it will not compare to the mips of a gpu so it only would pay up if the implementation could be more efficient.

idk if this can be the case I am no dsp expert, just wanted to tell what I know.

First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they keep laughing, then they start choking on their laughter, and then they go and catch their breath. Then they start laughing even more.
