no because i expect the client to be able to handle multiple wallets. for example a "load" function which pops up a file-search-dialog followed by a password prompt (or maybe usb dongle or stuff).

i would call it "bitcoin banking application" or stuff...

"bitcoin wallet" is misleading and confusing, as a thing named "bitcoin wallet" already exists, naimly the wallet file itself.

sry for pushing this up if the thread was just a cheap attempt to troll.

I think renaming the client to Bitcoin Wallet is very good idea.

During an interview, I used the term "Bitcoin Client" and had to go on a tangent about what a "client" was.  If I had said "Bitcoin Wallet" it would have instantly clicked.  I don't think people are interested in a technical lesson on what a client is.

What does it do?  It's where you store (and to a lesser extent manage) your money.  It's a wallet.

Technically, yes, you are correct.  (load function search dialogue password prompt usb dongle.  Roll Eyes)

I would definitely prefer to call the client a "bitcoin wallet", and say "technically, it stores multiple wallets".  I would also prefer to call the actual wallet.dat a "bitcoin wallet file", or "bitcoin wallet.dat file", instead of the misleading bitcoin wallet.

The stock client is much more useful as a network node than as a wallet.  It just isn't obvious yet because almost no one has ever used an alternative client.

Bitcoin is the software, your balance within your bitcoin account which is stored within a wallet.dat file is the balance you have within bitcoin the software.

Well, I voted "don't know/care" but have since changed my mind to "yes" for the reasons stated by Mark Oates. I also think the UI of the client exposes too much of the technical details, it needs pretty icons and user-friendly metaphors.

Although not technically correct, yes, btc wallet is more understandable to public(where public mean potentional bitcoin beginners or less IT oriented people). And what bitcoin needs is more people using it.

The general population will refer to the client as their bitcoin wallet anyway.

I just know it.
