Alright for curiosity sakes I'm mining now. It's at 2300 hashes a second.

I think I'll make TEN Litecoins if I ran for an entire year.
I don't know what my electricity costs would be though.
Plus it would probably ruin my computer?  Cheesy

This doesn't make sense does it?

The only reason I'm DOUBLE checking because 6 months ago I ALMOST bought a lot of Bitcoins but I didn't.

I want to make sure that by quitting mining Litecoins I'm not missing out on much.
I don't think I'm missing out on much

....but I want to DOUBLE check with an expert.

Notebooks are susceptible to overheating resulting in shorter lifespan of chips or soldering joints. Don't know about Macbook Air because did not disassemble one. Properly constructed and maintained computers can do full load 24x7x365 for decades without any bad effects.

But if the computer dies as a result of mining induced wear, it is not worth. Anything else - You would not lose anything much by continuing to mine even if Litecoins are not worth much in the end.

OP you are funny...2300 hashes. You need to mine with GPUs not CPUs.

This was true but I can not say with the advent of the laptop era that it is true anymore.  Maybe by saying 'properly constructed' and then most laptops would not be properly constructed it is true.

Pretty much any desktop made that did not suffer from bad caps would run until the fans died.  Most of them would shut down without damage due to thermal cutoff or fan sensing.  Most laptops just don't seem to survive fan failures these days.  Many just running the GPU or CPU full out would die after a few weeks.

You get into the pick two of three:
Shed heat well
Be reasonably sized
Be priced reasonably

Are you pool mining, or solo mining? Put your hash rate in here (make sure to update the difficulty), and see what your profit will be: http://www.litecoinpool.org/calc?hashrate=300&difficulty=1.42855586

If you are solo mining with those hashes, it will take you ages to find a block! Join a pool Smiley

I decided that the only thing this 2011 Macbook Air is really good at is watching HD YouTube videos without a hitch Wink

I tried pool mining, but then it said to make sure the minerd file is in the litecoin location.
I downloaded number 5 from here
https://github.com/pooler/cpuminer/downloads

Then when I download it...what exactly do I do with the files? Where do I put them? I thought i Put them in the right place but it's not working ;/

Honest. If you don't want to miss out do this: Get some money and buy at least 1-5 Bitcoins and 10-50 Litecoins. Then stop worrying and stop trying to kill the Air, I have one, they will not last if you mine on them. If you can afford a Air you can buy some BTC and some Litecoin and then forget about it. Sit on them.

They are very good computers for programming at university. I use mine all the time. Just don't do anything requiring real power, like games/3d graphics/film editing and mining.

Agreed just buy some BTC and LTC or sell something that people want for BTC or LTC. Thats what I do, I leave the mining to the miners.

You will destroy your macbook's gpu. Which will cost a hell of a lot of litecoins to replace. So. your choice.

I started mining LTC by using my macbook pro for about 2 days (the difficult was much lower) and the noise really kills me, even I put it on a cooler pad.

Actually it has nothing to do with electricity cost, it's just not worth it plus apple scarifies inside space of its laptops in exchange for a compact size, specially Mac airs,
so heat will kill your laptop quicker.

If you really want to get the fell of mining.....just grab a 7850, it will payoff itself in a year or less.

Mining on laptop is not worth it. You'll more than likely destroy your laptop's usable life, it's not designed to run at 100% capacity 24/7
