Hey everyone, I'd like to introduce myself.  I'm a longtime lurker of these forums and a longtime lover of Bitcoin.  I'm a developer (15+ years experience) in gaming, websites, and more.  My friend and I were inspired by SatoshiDice to get involved in the gambling aspect of Bitcoin so we developed BitcoinVideoPoker.com.

At first I just wanted to pass my website information along to mem (for his gambling website list) and be on my merry way, but I'm thinking now that is probably not the right way to go about business.  Instead, I'll announce and hang around here and be of assistance to anyone who needs it.

So that's that.  Check out our website if you're bored or interested in video poker.  We went for a retro Vegas look and feel.  The game is Jacks or Better and the top payout is 4000 to 1 on a Royal Flush.  We require 0 confirmations to play, but 2 confirmations on your deposit before you can cashout and the minimum cashout is 0.02.

http://BitcoinVideoPoker.com/

I'll be hanging around to answer any questions to take feedback.  Thanks:)

Not bad. simple deposit mechanism, fast play, decent (if a little tight) payouts.

Are there better payouts for video poker?  We can definitely reconsider the payout schedule.  At 5x bet, the game should be over 99.5% return.

We're also working a double down feature that some Vegas-style versions of video poker have.  Look for it in the future:)

Instead, I'll announce and hang around here and be of assistance to anyone who needs it.

I like how it acknowledges my deposit in real-time.

But I'm stuck now though.   So I have credits.  It shows Bet 1.  I click Draw.   The Credits counter drops by 1.   The box goes grey.   And I can't do anything else.  No cards turned over.

I can reload the page and the Credits counter reverts to the full amount that I deposited.

I am on Chrome on Ubuntu.

[Edit: Also, the deposit address could use a way to show it as a QR code, for those who pay from a mobile.]

[Edit2: The site was updated and this is resolved.]

OK, thanks.  Sorry for the issues -- can you E-mail admin@bitcoinvideopoker.com the URL to your account?  Also, can check for JavaScript errors before sending that E-mail?

It very likely could be a browser incompatibility, and I'd like to get it fixed:)

e-mail? Seriously?

E-mail is a clear text transport method, and thus is not good for sending URLs which have the ability to claim and/or withdraw bitcoins.

What's your GPG key so that I can encrypt it first?

We're also working a double down feature that some Vegas-style versions of video poker have.  Look for it in the future:)

The game you have set up - I have played it a fair bit when the excellent (though less professionally interfaced) competitor play.luckco.in has been down - is a "9-5 jacks or better" machine, which has a 98,4% return with perfect play (I calculated it yesterday, I think). The "full-pay" structure you refer to, with 99,54% return assuming perfect play and a fixed 799:1 (4000-credit) RF jackpot payout, pays 30 credits for a flush on a 5x bet rather than 25.

Nonetheless, your game is mathematically similar to SatoshiDICE and much better than most video poker machines I've seen outside of Las Vegas. I give it a reasonable thumbs up, and a much bigger thumbs up if you upgrade it to a full-pay machine as described above ("9-6 jacks or better").

I have another opinion regarding vigorish and advantage play. If you offered some kind of progressive jackpot, say, by adding 1% of each wager into this jackpot pool, combined with a "9-6 JoB" payout structure as described above, the theoretical payout would rise to 100,54% (unless I'm mathematically impaired), but I think the House would still turn a profit, because few players play perfectly, thus donating money back to the House. Why don't real-world casinos offer more ultra-loose loss-leading games like this, I wonder? In Australia and New Zealand the casinos are known to give away free money in prize draws, sometimes $10k or more! as loss leaders, the only caveat being you actually have to be present in the casino at the prize draw when it takes place.

Well, actually, I think we discovered the problem already.  We use SoundManager 2 to play sounds in a web browser and on some systems the module doesn't load completely, leaving some sound items 'null' or undefined.

You don't need to send me your URL as it looks like the problem is entirely in javascript.  Indeed, line 248 (videopoker.js) is:

sound_pay_coins.play();

Which means the sound module didn't load on your machine.  We already have a fix for this and will be pushing it up shortly.  I'll post in here to let you know when the fix is live:)

Thanks for the thumbs-up and the tip on the odds.  I'm going to have a meeting with the other guy on this project and discuss upgrading to a full pay game.  I don't see why he would have any objections.  We'll make the change and do some play testing and then probably have the new odds up in a couple days, if not sooner.  I'll keep you all posted on this thread.

We have actually been discussing having some kind of progressive / jackpot play.  Look for it in the future:)

BitcoinVideoPoker has been updated with new features and bug fixes.  Here's a rundown:

New Features

  • New Double or Nothing feature is available.  After winning, just hit the Double button and try to beat the dealer.
  • Along with Double or Nothing, provably fair information for Doubling down is provided.  Click on the text in the 'My Games' table below to see more information.
  • Better odds! We've upgraded to a Jacks or Better 9-6 full pay schedule.  That means now it's possible to achieve a 99.5% expected return.
  • A QR code popup is available by hovering over the Bitcoin address.

Improvements

  • Help dialog is much improved.
  • JavaScript files are compressed for a better web experience.  The JavaScript code is still available to anyone interested.
  • We've done a lot to make the game run and play smoothly. If you see *any* issues at all, let us know.

Fixes

  • A bug that prevented people from playing when sound (flash) wasn't loading has been fixed. (Thanks to Stephen Gornick for pointing this out)

I hope everyone can come try it out and give feedback and most importantly, have fun!

The wallet is spent now so I'll share the URL:

I played a couple dozen hands.  But now when I click the My Games it doesn't show anything.

This is on Chrome.  I didn't try any other browsers.

Hey -- looks like I was bit misunderstanding of the issue at hand here.  Our leaderboards obviously need a bit of improvement if you're pointing this out.

Currently only the 'My Games' tab updates after each of your games.  The other tabs are loaded once when the page loads and that's final.  You've convinced us that more dynamic leaderboards are very important so those are the next thing to be upgraded.  Look for those in a few days.  As it stands now, the My Games tab is only data stored in javascript. so when you refresh it is not repopulated.

With new leaderboards, your 'My Games' table will be refreshed upon reload and the other tables will update dynamically with others' and your big wins.

Sorry for any confusion:)
