To get jabber on windows/linux, download "pidgin", go to accounts, manage account, add, XMPP, choose a username, password, and domain (xmpp.jp for example). On Windows, get OTR at otr.cypherpunks.ca. If you're running linux, OTR can be found in the software center. Mac, you're out of luck. The program to use is called Adium, but I can't help you there.
