I did read something somewhere the other day, about how Gmaxwell left for some reason. I would like some further details on what exactly happened.
The work by Gmaxwell is of the best i've seen in Bitcoin and I was very excited about confidential transactions, it shows he is one of the guys thats pushing Bitcoin in the right direction which is decentralization of nodes and better anonymity, it would be sad if he left the building so I hope he comes back stronger after a vacation. I refuse to believe the trolls really won the battle. We must fight till the end for this amazing project.

I searched Google for statements by Gmaxwell, but he's been quiet about his committer status on Bitcoin's Github. If he's relinquished his Github privileges I think he will still continue offering contributions, but leave the decision of what to integrate to others. That way he can continue his Bitcoin dev work without dealing with all the arguments and politics.

Many of us appreciate the contributions of gmaxwell, and this is a good occasion to say we appreciate the work he's done.
I've followed the recent controversy to some degree and certainly noticed many unfair personal attacks directed at the core developers in general, and gmaxwell in particular. That's just in people's nature, I suppose.
My hope is that gmaxwell takes a well-earned "retirement" from Bitcoin development, and that after a nice rest a very intelligent and productive pseudonymous individual starts contributing. Those of us who are fans will smile and not ask too many questions.

If the reasons are personal he will most probably not disclose them and he is entitled to do so. Sad to see him more distant from Bitcoin, but I bet he will always be around and have an opinion about things: He might even return to active development in the future  His contributions were definitely vital and will be echoed in future Bitcoin releases for years to come. |

Maxwell, as well as many other Core devs, have taken an enormous amount of abuse. I regularly see them called liars and accused of scheming to "cripple" Bitcoin. I'd never want to be in their positions. It underscores how important it was that Satoshi remained anonymous. There are many evil people in the world.
If Maxwell decides he's taken enough abuse and decides he'd be happier leaving the space, I wouldn't blame him at all. It would be bad for Bitcoin, which is a bit bad for me, but he should do what's best for him. He's already earned his place as a very important part of the history of cryptocurrency.
This was perfectly said. People are so damn ungrateful both on reddit and on this very forum. Being a Core developer can be a horrible 'job' so to speak. |

I like this idea. One way or another we need guys like this. I cant wait for confidential transactions so I can freely move any quantities of money without other people knowing, even tho im pretty broke I just never got why people should be able to see it on the blockchain, for recieving donations is also required, so I also say thanks and hope the good work is continued. |

Good and true words mate! Gmaxwell did a lot for Bitcoin and I hope he will continue working on it.I hope he knows, beside all the trolling against him and the core devs in general, that there are more than enough people in this community supporting him. |

I would not blame him, if he did take a break from all this craziness.... things can get a bit out of hand, and people can be cruel sometimes... especially when it's done from a anon forum account. This whole deal with the developers turned into a shit fest anyway.. I would also distance myself from that and return when things are back to normal. I just hope it's not permanent.  |
