I recently wrote a patch for bitcoin and posted it to the mailing list, but would it have been better to have posted it here?

Very nice! So far the policy has been to email Satoshi and post here with patches, but that will have to change in the upcoming months.

Additionally you can add patches to http://www.bitcoin.org/wiki/doku.php?id=list_of_patches

For now I have maintained majority of patches that I can find.  I may have missed some, but I'm not going to look through history again.  Feel free to continue adding to this wiki page so I don't have to do all the work. ^_^
