‘This is illegal, right?’ Did Obama’s NSA spy on members of Congress?
Twitchy  by Sarah D. Yesterday
This sounds … not good:

Huge WSJ scoop: Obama stepped up spying on Congress & Israel to protect Iran deal https://t.co/6UXV5KsCp3

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) December 29, 2015

More from The Wall Street Journal (emphasis ours):

Quote
The U.S., pursuing a nuclear arms agreement with Iran at the time, captured communications between Mr. Netanyahu and his aides that inflamed mistrust between the two countries and planted a political minefield at home when Mr. Netanyahu later took his campaign against the deal to Capitol Hill.

The National Security Agency’s targeting of Israeli leaders and officials also swept up the contents of some of their private conversations with U.S. lawmakers and American-Jewish groups. That raised fears—an “Oh-s— moment,” one senior U.S. official said—that the executive branch would be accused of spying on Congress.

Well, gee. Guess those fears were well founded because “spying on Congress” sounds an awful lot like what the executive branch was actually doing.

Obama said no more spying on Merkel, Hollande. But keep spying on Netanyahu & Israel's supporters in Congress: pic.twitter.com/Vwujty1THx

Wonder how Congress feels about Obama ramping up NSA spying on them to protect his Iran deal?

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) December 29, 2015

Maybe it's not as bad as it sounds. Obama stepped up spying on Congress and Israel's PM so Iran could get its nukes. Yeah OK that's bad.

— Seth Mandel (@SethAMandel) December 29, 2015

It’s one thing to spy on foreign governments.

But spying on Congress?

So @POTUS put U.S. intelligence assets on Congress in order to force deal with a foreign power. How is this not the definition of treason?

— Bob Owens (@bob_owens) December 29, 2015

@SethAMandel Can someone explain how the WH spying on Congress is not an impeachable offense? Thanks. @20committee

@SethAMandel @WSJ this violates law.

Good God. The man is utterly lawless. https://t.co/WyG5khALyb

It really does seem like President Obama is above the law.

I am confused by people saying Obama's "Nixonian"–as if Nixon ever dared dream up this stuff.

Hahahahahaha, how´s this for a lame excuse

White House officials believed the intercepted information could be valuable to counter Netanyahu’s campaign. They also recognized that asking for it was politically risky. So, wary of a paper trail stemming from a request, the White House let the NSA decide what to share and what to withhold, officials said. “We didn’t say, ‘Do it,’ ” a senior U.S. official said. “We didn’t say, ‘Don’t do it.’ ”
