I think you are talking about 1 bitcoin, if you have enough money than you can buy 1 bitcoin right now without thinking much as price is some dollar low than usual. Best time to buy.

yup, the price will keep increasing so it is always good to buy now and hold it. you also can consider to use it whenever there is a need. in this way u also can help to generate more flow in btc.

it depends. some people just want to use bitcoin as an investment. they buy, hold, and sell when the price has gone up. they don't care much about using it as currency.

Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

If you have the money that are just staying in a place and you don't have any plan to spend them,
Then why not trying to invest in bitcoin, the price now is not expensive and you could probably make a little profit within a month or more

I think that, as an investment, is a good idea to buy a full Bitcoin and keep it for the future (in case you can afford it that is). It is likely that its price raises, and that it becomes more usable. At the very worst, (Bitcoin bombs and ends being a failure) you will have it as a souvenir.

You can try and earn it too. That's the path I chosed. But if I could not earn it by any means, it is likely that I bought some.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

I have savings and 450 bucks isn't too much to forget about I'm prepared to take the risk.

I'm thinking it might be a good investment in say 5 - 10 years ?
My man, no one on this forum can predict what the price of btc is going to be in a week, much less 5-10 years.  So it could be a good investment, or you could be out your entire $450.  If you can afford it and you can buy a whole bitcoin at market rate, I say do it.  But my opinion is worth what you paid for it, so keep that in mind.

If you are going to buy your first Bitcoin, May I recommend that you find someone who has a wallet somewhere that gives them a referral bonus for you buying your first Bitcoin!!  You can offer to do this for them if they give you 1.2 of the reward they will get.  This will allow you to get more for your money and it will also allow you to get in a a good price, for so many are calling for a major increase!

Well next thing you will do is not holding ot for long. For now learn to read some daily charts to take advantage of what will the price will bring us. Rotate the coins.

I would like to have a go at day trading, I noticed coinbase  have their own trading platform : https://exchange.coinbase.com

It would be nice to have a go at it, I'm not going to spend my 1 BTC now thats being kept, but maybe i could buy a smaller amount of bitcoin to trade with, but it looks very confusing !

Welcome to bitcoin! If bitcoin trading interests you read all you can and practice on paper for a few months to prove to yourself that you have the aptitude (and temperament) for trading. It is not for everyone but might be for you.

Coinbase is as safe an any online wallet for your bitcoin. Take some time to learn and understand hardware and paper wallets before you consider moving your bitcoin from the safety of Coinbase.

The price has retreated from previous high around $460 before going back to the uptrend. The halving is significant event for bitcoin. You could have a look here : http://coinour.com/index.php/2016-the-year-of-bitcoin/

Congratulations, My advice would be to stick it on a paper wallet, lock it away and dont even bother looking at prices for a few years then by that time you could come back and who knows.

I also noticed you bought it in pounds, what exchange did you use? lbt?

Hi Thanks Smiley, I have printed some paper wallets and put the coin into those, i am using blockchain to only watch the public key.

I used Coinbase, and got the BTC instantly.

This is really a nice idea to have a first whole Bitcoins. We can atleast do some trading with open heart and can calculate the benefits and loss as per the investment amount in trading or in gambling.

If I had the money much much more than one. Maybe hundred. I have not the money and yet i am buying it. Few and few every day or night I find the possibility (have the money to do this. Will continue this way even for much more time (whatever will be the price). You are a sure winner if you buy it. Don't think to much because every day gone may be a late one regarding everything has to do with it.

Investing in something should be made based on a research so must think of course.

Nowadays the price isn't expensive as it was before few weeks or months but still worth

Even though the price is increasing slightly nowadays i expect in the next few weeks that the bitcoin price increase so why not buying some if we can afford it.

As OP says he doesn't have plan in selling it for a year. It means he will holds it and wait for price increased. How he will lose that bucks? maybe you should say, if you dont care in spending $450 then bought 1 whole btc.

it will be bit risky if he just want trade Bitcoin with USD because in short term bitcoin could go down then the OP gets panicked and sells for lowwer price

If you have the money to buy a whole Bitcoin, then yeah, definitely buy your first Bitcoin. If you don't have enough money, then just buy small parts of Bitcoin. I think right now, is a really good time to buy Bitcoin as the price is just beginning to rise. You will make the most amount of profit if you buy Bitcoin now. If I were you, I would buy some Bitcoins. You could also earn Bitcoin through signature campaigns and faucets. That is only if you have absolutely no money to spenf on Bitcoin, or just want to make some extra money.
