I already had about 10 dash that ive now either formatted or is hiding away in one of my hdd, but id be interested to hear what the community thinks.

Litecoin is the safe haven coin.  Volume good, liquidity good.  No problems getting in or out.

For a hundred quid?  Don't expect much.  I'd rather go play poker with it.

Yeah i know its not mental money but im trying to make some sort of calculated risk, Basically if litecoin replaced bitcoin in usage and price a hundred quids worth today would be an alright amount to hold in a few years.

The usual fud.  If it goes down, it goes down.  That's trading.

Say if your mythical alt suddenly did become a Bitcoin challenger, the exact same schisms and technical limitations would pop up and they'd probably be a whole load more catastrophic because they haven't been tested properly. The only reason Bitcoin is the daddy is because it has earned trust because it's had the shit kicked out of it for years and it's still rolling. You can't replicate that no matter how many bells and whistles a coin has.

If BTC fails, which is a possibility, there's going to be a mountain to climb for anything else to take its place. It's the standard bearer for all coins and the perception of all of them stands and falls with it.

I think bitcoin won't be replaced, but rather people will turn to other coins to fulfill their needs where bitcoin fails. For example coins that will be pegged to fiat (likely backed by major financial institutions) could become the norm for use in everyday life. Projects like BitCredit could take up things like p2p lending and others will find uses as well.

Agree with this totally, though I agree with the other guy who said Litecoin is a backup.  I would also suggest DOGE as a backup as well.  The other altcoins not only don't have any shot whatsoever at replacing bitcoin, most of them won't even be around in two years is my guess.  99.9% of them are just speculative garbage.

Litecoin is the safe haven coin.  Volume good, liquidity good.  No problems getting in or out.

so is doge.

and you can use it to do/buy "real" things.

Between Litecoin and Dodge as a replacement for BItcoin if BItcoin runs into trouble, I would pick Doge. The reason Doge has a tail emission. The biggest challenge facing Bitcoin today is the 1 MB blocksize limit. What many do not realize is that the reason why there is so much division among the Bitcoin developers is that there is no simple solution to this problem. Simply increasing the blocksize only kicks the can down the road. The issue is how do you secure Bitcoin once the block subsidy runs out? This is why many are so reluctant to increase the blocksize in order to make the blocksize a scarce commodity to ensure that there are enough transaction fees to secure the network.

The one existing solution for an adaptive blocksize in POW coins is in the Cryptonote coins. This solution works by applying a penalty function to the block subsidy; however this requires a block subsidy to penalize. With the Cryptonote adaptive blocksize and without a tail emission (say Bytecoin) the blocksize becomes effectively infinite when the emission runs out and there is no way to secure the coin. It is for this reason that Monero has a tail emission, making it the highest capitalization POW coin to have solved the Bitcoin blocksize issue. Doge has a partial solution since it has a tail emission in place. Adding an adaptive blocksize is not a disrupting hard fork but changing the overall maximum number of coins from finite to potentially infinite is. For this reason my choices for likely replacement are: 1) Monero 2) Doge.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card
