Litecoin is the safe haven coin.  Volume good, liquidity good.  No problems getting in or out.

so is doge.

and you can use it to do/buy "real" things.

Between Litecoin and Dodge as a replacement for BItcoin if BItcoin runs into trouble, I would pick Doge. The reason Doge has a tail emission. The biggest challenge facing Bitcoin today is the 1 MB blocksize limit. What many do not realize is that the reason why there is so much division among the Bitcoin developers is that there is no simple solution to this problem. Simply increasing the blocksize only kicks the can down the road. The issue is how do you secure Bitcoin once the block subsidy runs out? This is why many are so reluctant to increase the blocksize in order to make the blocksize a scarce commodity to ensure that there are enough transaction fees to secure the network.

The one existing solution for an adaptive blocksize in POW coins is in the Cryptonote coins. This solution works by applying a penalty function to the block subsidy; however this requires a block subsidy to penalize. With the Cryptonote adaptive blocksize and without a tail emission (say Bytecoin) the blocksize becomes effectively infinite when the emission runs out and there is no way to secure the coin. It is for this reason that Monero has a tail emission, making it the highest capitalization POW coin to have solved the Bitcoin blocksize issue. Doge has a partial solution since it has a tail emission in place. Adding an adaptive blocksize is not a disrupting hard fork but changing the overall maximum number of coins from finite to potentially infinite is. For this reason my choices for likely replacement are: 1) Monero 2) Doge.

I actually own some doge but I've never taken it serious,  after reading what you've said it doesn't seem like a bad idea though,  but even still I think it's more important that we get the right fix for Bitcoin.might stock up on some more doge.

Transactions must be included in a block to be properly completed. When you send a transaction, it is broadcast to miners. Miners can then optionally include it in their next blocks. Miners will be more inclined to include your transaction if it has a higher transaction fee.

The question I have is: Does such a fix for BItcoin even exist without touching the 21 million maximum number of Bitcoins limit? I do not have the answer to this question. What I do know is that a lot of very smart people have been searching for this fix to no avail up to now.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Three words...  Bar... Bee... Cue

BBQ king of crypto (by year 2142 AD)

QUESTION
which altcoin would be bitcoins likely replacement ?

ETH ... the big money is already behind it, but the average investor is likely gonna get burned out.

Other than that ... none.  Until it becomes clear that BTC is defeatable and that will take years.  Coins like Digi, VNL, Monero, UNO, NXT, FTC, and others could claim parts but not the whole of the bitcoin empire.  Currency vs stores-of-value vs DACs vs wide-fair-distro ... bitcoin has laid claim on them all but in actuality weak in spots Wink

The main issue i see with bitcoin is the mining centralization, Whatever replacement will/should have a mining solution that does not involve asics.

I don't see any altcoin that can replace bitcoin now. Many of them are quite specialised and we need another general coin like Litecoin to have a chance of replacing bitcoin.

 I am currently looking at bitcoin alternatives but i think if truth be told were bitcoin to start having problems i think it would probably kill cryptocurrency as a whole for me. I dont think i could have trust in another coin if bitcoin failed.

Never thought of it that way before, but you do have a point. As someone said in another post the amount of projects and support that bitcoin has it would take any altcoin out there a good 3-5 years at least to catch up where bitcoin is today. At the same time though if bitcoin doesn't continue to evolve and push the boundaries it will eventually get surpassed. Look at all other technologies. Cassette player -> Cd -> MP3 -> Mobile phones.

Litecoin seems the likely replacement, but I think Doge has quite a bit of support behind it as well. I would say Dash and Eth are probably 3 and 4.

That's true all other alt coins are traded for bit coin and huge mass believe in bit coin if bitcoi n fails then other coin will die automatically

Not necessary true. Some altcoins are not based on bitcoin. Ethereum and Monero has nothing to do with Bitcoin.

it bitcoin fails all other coins will... or who knows?!

it bitcoin reaches values like $5,000-$10,000 then many people will try to gain some from the alt coins so we could see litecoin and dogecoin hitting much higher values...

There seems to be a few people here who think that if BTC fails then that will be the end of all cryptocurrencies.

That notion is false and couldn't be further from the truth. Bitcoin had it's role to play in being the original innovation behind the launching of blockchain based technology. However, there are at least a few amazing technologies that are both building upon the Bitcoin Foundation's original success and others which are leading the field in completely different ways.

Take a look at MAID for example. This is groundbreaking, potenitally Internet changing stuff, which, incidentally began about a decade ago, which was way before Bitcoin. However, to say it might replace Bitcoin would of course be missing the point as it is a completely different concept.

There are others too that might also be worth mentioning such as:

ETH - Smart contracts
BAY - Bitbay (also smart contracts, which was actually around before Ethereum);
NXT - The NXT platform offers a lot more than it's being credited with imho;

Others I like such as:

NAUT - Nautilus because of it's innovative approach to offering an actual alternative currency to the Greek economy;

and

VNL - VANILLA
FIBRE - Coolest wallet ever!
BTCD - Bitcoin Dark

which seem to offer more in terms of security and privacy etc.

Crypto is here to stay, whether BTC survives or not!

Crypto is an embryo ... now small ... someday will crack the shell.
BTC the yolk.  It feeds it.

Both will become a hybrid duckgoose_bunny that will hops about laying more and more gold coated chocolate eggs.

Then it's unlikely to replace bitcoin period.

Litecoin seems a good option as any as a replacement for Bitcoin. It's going strong, has good liquidity and can be considered a serious alternative for Bitcoin. Can't say that litecoin will go through the same blocksize problem that bitcoin might be on the verge of or whether litecoin would be steered clear of it, but it might become the cryptocurrency next to bitcoin.

Litecoin has the best current chance because it is a ready made replacement for bitcoin.

Litecoin is just a clone of bitcoin. It will die when bitcoin dies. So it is not a replacement of bitcon.

Ethereum has a good and big team.
Development wise they are ahead of bitcoin. But they have a long way to go.

I also believe Stellar's (Lumen) has a solid dev. team. It would not surpise me if they would bypass btc.

Ethereum.  I think  100% likely to grow bigger than bitcoin in under 2 years.  Bitcoin will still exist, but Eth market cap will be bigger.
