For anyone interested in what I'm talking about see my profile(the huge block of text)
Edit: Funnily enough, there seems to be a 66363 character limit
Edit 2: Higher limit on Other contact info it seems

I don't think they are set for a specific reason , probably the default options from Simple machines forum software if you ask me.
Skype should be like ICQ and the other options , just an icon that gets added under your Avatar and people can add you when they click on you . It's much faster and better.

Yeah probably, but changing Personal text limits, ICQ and IM limits, and even removing BBCode option from Other Information but not Skype doesnot feel right

The worst thing that could really happen is someone make their profile look messy and obnoxious, which is a very small issue in comparison to the others on the forum currently. Because of all of the forum's security measures I can't see any sort of problems security wise coming from people being able to put BBCode in their profiles. Granted it is a bit of a silly thing for SMF to let by though.

It will probably be fixed in the new forum anyway, so can just wait for that.

You mean me? Have a look(Hint: Don't) at my profile.

Don't see any big issues not being fixed? Which ones are you talking about specifically?(Is it the Watchlist thing?)

Wouldn't post it publicly if it was a security issue now would I? (If it was, being a selfish guy I'd have reported it to 'the ol' man' and claimed the bounty)

Most likely it was admins who added the new form.

I don't see the problem people who have such profiles will never taken serious. So it don't help you if you change it to something like you have now.

I'll ping theymos later in case that some other staff member hasn't done it already. Nice find though.

Precisely. Wasn't targeting you with that comment though.

There's a watchlist problem? I had no idea Tongue
What I'm mainly talking about is the pretty consistent downtime and CSS bugs which hide all posts on a page or make certain elements block black.

Wouldn't post it publicly if it was a security issue now would I? (If it was, being a selfish guy I'd have reported it to 'the ol' man' and claimed the bounty)
Things which aren't seen a security issues can sometimes be twisted to something problematic (E.G Images pre-proxy). Also, nothing selfish about claiming a bounty.

Most likely it was admins who added the new form.
I didn't realize that it wasn't a default in SMF, though looking at the source you are right. My apologies.

Fixed(AFAIS from my profile).

Yeah the "When you unwatch the thread it still appears in 'Show new replies to your posts.'" seems pretty widely talked about . As for the downtimes, well thats not an issue with the coding part, rather a server issue(which comes with getting secure while getting DDoS-proof). CSS bugs? IIRC it was said to be a problem with either your network or an adblocker(or something similar) , user-side.

Edit: Keeping the thread open for another hour, if anyone wants to chime in

Well as the admins do seem to try fix it, just to let you know its not fixed completely yet. There is a character limit of 1024 chars on Skype now, and BBCode seems to be deactivated but the limit seems to be server side, ie the chars higher than the limit of 1024 are stored on the server, just not shown. Simple fix I believe, to make a char limit on the user side as well, saving space  Tongue you never know when some spammers try 'DDoSing' the forum's disk space, if such thing exists that is, by making thousands of accounts and then uploading the random jibberish of 44799 bits(current char limit, on the server side).

I have just noticed and pinged theymos about it. The first time that I've encountered the thread and had opened your profile it was huge. Skype doesn't need a huge limit, it needs a small one. However, this forum is of lesser importance ATM (aside from general security). Maybe you should focus your attention on the Beta (just a suggestion though).

Technically that would not be DDoS but rather exploiting the current settings. I do not think that someone could make enough of those (to cause harm) before someone else noticed (e.g. theymos).

Not much of a "bug-hunter" , noticed this one because of QS' profile. And yeah I've been active on the beta forum, but well theymos' said not to use it much(I guess) and there's too many bugs to even start with. The simplest one, everyone is Hero.

P.S: I'm Lovebeta there

True, theymos probably wouldn't notice it though. That KNC miner dude could, with about 4 accounts per min and ~5.5 KBs per account, inflate the forum by 80 MB per 5 days

Well he wouldn't notice that because that amount would not do any noticeable harm. I pinged him about the Skype limit (definitely no need for 1024 characters).

Just to confirm if I was understood(really bad at explaining thing in more than a sentence), what I meant is , the 1024 char limit is fine(someone may also write "Do not contact me on skype for doing trades" etc) , what I'm saying is the forum stores 44799 chars, while only displaying the first 1024 chars. The char limit should be server+client side limited

Why don't we just have the ability to use the size function disabled in the various contact fields? I don't really see any drawback to having the other BB code features.

My profile is broken and I am having trouble fixing it with how it is setup now.
