Right, it is not a sin to gamble but people who lets themselves be consumed by the gambling games resulting to addiction is what make them commit immoral acts. I agree with you, there is latterly  no risks in gambling IF you understand the risks, and understand the fact that you won't be able to earn any money from gambling.

Once sin remains sin, in Islam gambling is sin. So whatever your reason for gambling, however you treat it, gambling remains a sin in Islam. And if you know that gambling is a sin, but you do not care about it and keep on gambling, then you're against the rules and that's the worst thing.

We can say money makes people greedy and I don't see church ever said money is sin. As the matter of fact they are charging(at least in my religion) every possible things they can charge and all things they are charging should be for free.
Think about this - if you donate million dollars to church they will accept it. Will they donate that million dollars to last cent to people who need it or will they keep it to themselves(most of money)?

Yep we can't cover up a sin and justify it to be not. Though I'm not an Islam I understand on how they are implementing laws toughly and there's a punishment for every mistake that you'll get if you will be caught on act or someone will report you to your leaders that you are one of them. Religious rules are made to be dealt with responsibly, gambling is strictly prohibited by religion but if we do not imply what is implied as negative elements such as injuring others, self-destructing, then gambling is still worth doing, besides religious law, there is still a positive law we can do.
