Different people generally mean different things when they write "backed by". You need to be careful to explain what you mean when you use the words "backed by". For example, the words "backed by" mean something different in each of these: - The dollar is no longer backed by gold and Bitcoin is backed by nothing.
- The dollar is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government.
- The dollar is backed by the U.S. military.
- The dollar is backed by banks.
- Bitcoin is backed by math.
- Bitcoin is backed by the processing power of the network.
- Bitcoin is backed by electricity.

I'm not sure any type of money has to be inherently valuable. If two people decide that it represents something they've worked for, it's money. I think the "represented by electricity and math" argument is kinda wrong.

bitcoins code is based on maths bitcoins security of the code is based on electric and math bitcoins emotional value is based on the security of funds(electric and math) and usefulness bitcoins financial value is based on the speculation of emotional value and speculation so bitcoin is backed by maths and electric.. but the financial value is a high percentage of speculation ontop the base value  |
