NXT is NOT premined. You trolls should study again.
Pin
After your post, I took my time to look more properly into the way NXT generates coins, especially what "forging" is supposed to be. Interestingly enough, the current NXT thread uses the term "mining" several times (though stuff like their FAQ on the wiki makes it clear that "premined" is indeed not fitting). Instead of calling people who, thus, misunderstand the way NXT were available from the start "trolls", you should probably call out to whoever is maintaining the NXT thread. Next, I'd like to inform you about the official NXT wiki linked in the thread, which contains the following statement regarding "premining": The only way to implement this form of currency is to issue all available coins in the genesis block. I'm not too deep into the technical aspects of cryptocurrencies yet, but isn't that, on a technological level, the same as an instamined coin? Where's the technological difference to that? If it's the same, then why make a difference in regards to terminology to the other coins in the opening post, which are described using that term? And before you tell me "because NXT is not mined": couldn't I simply create a new crypto, make it 100% premined (thus making classical mining obsolete) and say it's not mined? How would that differ? Last, forging does not generate new coins, but recycles those already available. You are free to watch their information video on how NXT is "mined" for that. tl;dr: the way coins from NXT are available right from the start does not differ from the way any instamined coin is available right from the start, as far as I understand it. Thus, the coin should be described with the same term describing other coins which have some coins instamined. You guys are free to correct me on this issue. Still, even if I am wrong, there has to be a clear statement which tells someone looking at this list that NXT was at one billion coins right from the start, especially to clear up possible confusion and misunderstandings about its current, potentially misleading market capitalization. +1 on this . its realy clear that its premined but anyway i think it will go up and up and make its developers too reach .

XPM has an incredible innovation, in that it performs scientific computing as a consequence. Should be bumped.

Catcoin (CAT) will be at Difficulty 256 by the end of today. The future looks very promising for this 9 day old Scrypt coin. Just thought I'd post this so Catcoin could be added to the list of all cryptocoins

It's becoming like Linux distros. New coin every day, but as someone said above the free market will fix it. Open source is a genius idea and everything will stabilize eventually. And just like with linux, there will be Bitcoin and Litecoin and everyone else will still exist but will not be used much.

I think the current state of affairs regarding alt coins is very daunting for newcomers and will hurt the crypto market in the long run.
This forum resembles everything which is wrong with crypto currency at the moment. It is full of greedy people just trying to make the quick buck, manipulating others, spreading lies, trying to make their own coins benefit at the cost of the truth, at the cost of others, at the cost of crypto currency in general.
Also look at how many copy clone coins are being spammed here every day. There is not even a critical judgement of these new coins anymore. Every new coin is labeled as the next big thing and to da moon.. just because everybody wants to make the quick bug and because people have their mining setup in place and need to throw it at something new and hope to make up for the costs.
If you take an outside perspective on all of this it is quite laughable actually.. the community destroys itself instead of taking the incredible head start advantage everyone on here still has out of pure greed.
I don't believe the market is mature enough to handle this.. my assumption is that we are building up a bubble which will pop rather sooner than later due to all the pumping. Maybe when everything is shattered, the second run for the alt coin community will go down better..

PoS and pre-mined are unrelated concepts. A PoS-coin can be used to generate new coins (PeerCoin) or just recycle existing coins (NXT).

This is a really great list, thank you for keeping it up to date. Your comments and classifications are really helpful and I hope you'll continue to revise or expand them as the huge number of altcoins continues to grow.
