To everyone hoarding. I think it is fine to keep your stash. Keep it and forget about it. But I ask you to do as I am doing: get some fresh bitcoins now, price doesn't matter, and use them to buy stuff.

Keep the incentive for sellers!

Actually I am going to get some new BC's now, choose some online store who accepts bitcoins and buy me something nice!! I don't know what yet, I only know in what currency I will pay for it. That's a gift I do to myself and an investment in the whole BC community!

I agree. If we don't get the ball rolling, people will lose interest and the currency won't take off.

Hoarders have been picked on everywhere all throughout history.  It is time for all the hoarders to get together and form social support networks and stand together to tell the world, "Yes!  We are hoarders.  And we're PROUD of who we are, and what benefits we bring to society!"

"We will not find a solution to political problems in cryptography, but we can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years.

I'm keeping a USD balance on Mt Gox. When I want something I can get for bitcoins, I buy more bitcoins to cover the cost.

RE: Hoarding

Quote
Historically, governments have frowned upon hoarding. Especially in bad economic times, stigmatizing the hoarder for "causing" high prices or shortages because he buys more than his "share" serves a useful political purpose. They divert attention away from government policies, such as tariffs, that are the true cause of empty shelves and high prices. By stirring up resentment toward neighbors who own one more can of peas than you do, politicians avoid the full and just brunt of public anger.

Quote
Hoarding, like any other human activity, can become obsessive. But in its common form, hoarding is nothing more than preparing for the future by laying aside a store of items you and your family may need. This is an especially valuable practice during economic instability, when necessary supplies can become scarce or suddenly double in price.

http://mises.org/daily/5200/Guerrilla-Hoarding

The above quotes are from a post about hoarding I read a while back on Mises.org. IMHO, hoarding is a basic human impulse that has served us well throughout the millenia; those people who took the time to save goods and money during the easy times were the ones who were more likely to make it through the tough times.

There's always coffee.

The first time I saw a reference to BitBrew, I thought it would be selling some brewed beverages for bitcoin, like Beer or Mead. I was a bit disappointed when I followed the link to find just coffee.

Would anybody be interested in buying fine homebrewed beverages for bitcoin? Not sure how shipping would work though, unless I just start selling to people in my area?

I love homebrew.  What's your area?

I'm not against hoarding, I have my stash too. I just encourage people to spend also, as a separate activity from hoarding. To incentivize those businesses accepting bitcoin and keep a minimum flow of money. I want them to stay in business so that I can actually SPEND my hoarded money too at some point in time.
