Vitalik  is not the only dev on ethereum. There are over 70.  Vitalik  has created the idea and whitepaper already.

yeah but the market wont care about that, it is all based on FUD, hype and perception. Mike Hearn wasn't even a real core developer and his tantrum dropped bitcoin 20%.

If Vitalik disappears ethereum would crash, there's way too much hype centralising it around one poor kid who's way out of his depth ... it's kind of sad how they are exploiting him.

What's sad is to watch "Bitcoiners" running for the lifes and trying to invent the most ridiculous FUD ever. Vitalik kidnapped? You don't even know who Satoshi is but you trust some unknown "core" developers and chinese miners and call that a decentralized utopia, lol.

Look man, Bitcoin doesn't even have to die because it has proven itself a good way to store wealth, like digital gold. As a payment system it's a complete joke that will never be adopted by anyone, either common persons or serious companies. It had its time and now it's really agonizing. Ethereum is not here to replace Bitcoin actually, because Bitcoin doesn't even have its own position secured, what's the use of it? Nothing. It was a unique and disruptive original idea that gave us the blockchain, the "currency" itself is a complete failure unless it's used as speculation tool (that's perfectly fine for me though...but many are still trying to make Bitcoin "happen", they think they could actually get a woman to use it for example...).

... so you're buying beer, pizza and coffee with your ether wallets?

I did when it was 90k satoshis, it was just as scary as it is now, even more because back then the bubble and P&D were even more logical. Now it already has 1B marketcap so even if it can drop a lot or be overbought at the time (these things had been said all the time since it was at 40k) I think there's plenty of legit interest on it and it still hasn't reach mainstream news as the "new" bitcoin killer. The mainstream news are just centered on Bitcoin problems and scandals as usual, but wait when they start to talk about Ethereum now that you can buy it with USD at Bitfinex and most likely many other exchanges soon (that means Coinbase, Xapo, Circle...).

However, buying and holding and jumping on this new ship is not easy at all. I now understand the doubts of Bitcoiners in 2013...I'm sure many early adopters just sold at $10 or $20 and never even imagined it could go at high as $1000. I know for a fact that many Ethereum pre-sale buyers sold their stash at 40-50k satoshis or well below 100k...now it's pushing $20.

Are you trolling? Is the same with Bitcoin, are you buying beer with Bitcoin? what are you? retarded? Why would you pay for a beer with "gold"? Same with ETH if its oil. These coins were not meant to replace digital payments. Digital payments work just fine for 99% of the people. They use Visa and Paypal.

Grin Grin Grin That's the must ridiculous FUD I ever heard from a frustrated Bitcoiner who missed the Ether train Grin Grin Grin

Get over it man, no financial institution will ever use Bitcoin... it's too slow, obsolete and sustained by an inefficient band of Dev and a greedy community that doesn't even agree on it's on future. although it was fun for the time being, we all have to agree that Bitcoin is doomed.

Anyone here go all in on eth?

Or you could just give your Bitcoin to me if you like?  Tongue

This thing has gone up 17-fold in two months - with an increasingly steep trajectory - such that were it to continue this path it would reach 4 trillion before September. Obviously, it must break this trend, and when it does, you will see just how much the holders truly believe in it beyond price.

I can tell you this, they are such adherents of the technology, that they hold over 11 million ETH at Polo and have not even moved it into their own wallets.

Tell me exactly what's the use of BTC other than a storage of wealth? Go buy a coffee with BTC so you can expend 20% when you realize all the fees and hassle that involved getting BTC in the first place (not to mention using your credit card and bank account info). Oh and tell the cashier to wait an hour or so for confirmation.

The last math I heard: out of 70 million+ Ethers currently in existence only 11 million are in the wild. That would mean they are all on Polo right now?

Forgive my petulance and oft-times, I fear, ill-founded criticisms, and forgive me that I have, by this time, made your eyes and head ache with my long letter. But I cannot forgo hastily the pleasure and pride of thus conversing with you.

Hi..
Do you know the maximum number of ether that will exist?

Where are the 59 million not "in the wild"?

Thanks Smiley

Afaik ETH is going POS eventually with a yearly inflation of a few million. I think.

The Ethereum Foundation holds most of them if I'm not mistaken, although Vitalik has been selling OTC for weeks.

The supply is not limited.  The maximum number is inifinity.

Thanks guys. I had heard that but found it hard to find information.
Might not suit me (except for a trade).

But with unlimited supply...no wonder the banks like it Smiley

Supply is limited. It's FUD spreaders who try to refute this. Read the white paper.

An annual X% increase, no matter how small is X, means there is no maximum supply.
Perhaps you could still call it "limited" because the annual increase is limited.  More limited than fiat at least lol.

This is also true of e.g. Doge, Peercoin, 42coinhttp://frass.woodcoin.org/the-42coin-saga/, and most all the proof of stake coins.

I'd question the math. The crowdsale was for about 60 million and 17 million more have been mined since then. The Ethereum Foundation owns BTC from the crowdsale. The last I heard they barely held any ETH.

I stand corrected. But Vitalik did post on Reddit during the run-up that he/they were selling OTC.

Markets going crazy right now. I knew the bubble would pop at some point.

Buy the rumor, sell the news seems to be the strategy of today for Ethereum.
