latest development update:

https://medium.com/vergecurrency

Dont talk about latest developments,
Go and talk about verge price crash
Verge is crashing

Well when it crash it's time to step in. This currency becomes better and better after each update. And yes, it sucks when its crashing but look at BTC. If crashed a lot and it's on his way up.

It's a good period for altcoins. The Btc dominance statistically would decrease in the next 12 months.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

haha, i don't understand the panic Cheesy
just go and buy low.

the verge project is ongoing since such a long time. i am not afraid it would disappear like so many ICOs.
each development update is the proof that people work on it.

so maybe just do the "whale thing" and gobble up those cheap coins and wait until later to sell for profit. Smiley

Correct and when bitcoin is going up the value of altcoins indirectly also goes up. Just sit back and relax. We will see the 300 back sooner as we expect.

naturally when bitcoin is pumping it will have an effect on all altcoins.
if the price is low right now, as i said, the best would be to accumulate more or just hang on and...

best is to accumulate. If you don't need for living, save it and keep safe.

Perhaps an idea for Verge to apply to this online (shapeshift like, but without KYC) exchange, it supports Bitcoin LN payments.

Hello Dogedarkdev,
hello all,

the last coin will be mined approximately on 01.12.2019, this is 185 days from now. What is the plan to raise the value of the coin before the mining reward will drop to zero. As i understand, the only reward will then be the fee for the transaction? I think most miners will stop mining from one day to another and the network might fall apart.

Are there enough activities to raise the value of the coin before the last coin will be mined?

we have a new halving schedule in place to extend the remaining supply over the next 6 years. we did a poll on twitter, and the proposal is on our github.

You may want to consider an additional throttle on emission, based on hashrate.

Hashrate is, in part, an indirect measure of market demand for the coin. The higher the hashrate on the Proof-of-Work algos, the more there is demand, and vice versa.  Thus, it makes sense to scale down emission when hashrate is relatively low, thereby further extending the distribution period for the coin.

For example, calculate the average hashrate seen in every 24 hour period going back one year. Choose the maximum of these values as the historical "peak hashrate" and use it as the denominator for a subsidy scaling factor (SSF).  Take the latest 24 hour period as the "current hashrate", and use as numerator.   SSF = peak_hashrate / current_hashrate.   Then, over the next 24 hour period, whatever reward is in the halving schedule gets scaled by SSF.   It will likely be reduced, and only be the full reward if current = peak hashrate.

This coin emission modulation could be applied independently to each of the 5 PoW algos

we are actually working on that now. we did a twitter poll and we are going to extend the last year of pow to 6 years, with more halvings

This is great.  It makes alot of sense, and having the community support in a democratic fashion is very good too.
I suggest an additional layer of coin emission reduction, which would depend on hashrate.   Most halving schedules are mechanical and rigid: every "x" blocks they reduce the reward, never to go higher again.    That's fine, but   with a  hashrate-modulated   scaling factor,  those 6 years, could, potentially, be stretched 2x, 3x or even more into the future.
It would depend on the hashrate seen on the network.  If hashrate was always growing thus always at max, then yes, the emission would be completed in 6 years (subsidy scale factor or 'SSF' is always 100%), but.... if the hashrate fell at times, then during those times, not 100% of the scheduled reward would be given, ( SSF at less than 100% ) it would be scaled dynamically (effectively reserving coins for emission into the future).

Of course, to respect emission limits, the halving points would no longer depend on number of blocks issued, but rather total money supply issued. This would have to be kept track of, but is easily done.
