When BTC enters the mainstream there will be some regulation attached to it. Most likely that you have to declare your accounts.

How about grabbing a whole bunch now and using them to anonymize transactions later?

There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Addresses aren't globally unique, so there is not actually any way to "claim" them that would make any difference whether you did so now or later.

What benjamindees said. Addresses aren't published at all---they're merely generated on the owner's machine, and completely disposable.

Yes - trade and posession will soon be illegal. They are now already (money laundry, alternative currency), but no judge has officially ruled about it.

Owning bitcoins is not the same thing as money laundering.

Also there are no laws against 'alternative currency', as you are trying to claim.

Regardless of whether there was or not, a lot of the people who own bitcoins arent even in the US.  Stop acting like America rules the world, it makes the few of us normal Americans look bad.

A system that makes illegal activities easier and is used predominantly for them is likely to get shut down in order to prevent it.

generating an address is like multiplication. It makes no sense whatsoever to outlaw it. I'm talking like in a full on Bitcoin is illegal, actual enforcement, PR campaign, etc it still makes no sense to target that aspect. It would be easier to stop people from using a calculator apps.

If this were true, the government would have been shut down long ago.  Roll Eyes
