pool mining bandwidth and peer to peer connections

Curious if mining from a pool what the network traffic looks like? if you are just running a mining program, does it require connections to other peers or just the pool server? does it use much bandwidth?

I was also wondering how much bandwidth the miner such as GUIMiner uses. How big is a typical share?
